Strangers

We’re both in here every morning
Reading the same stories in the newspaper
I know your favorite coffee
And you know mine
As we stand next to each other
In line every morning

Chorus:
Here we are, you and I
So close and yet we’ve never spoken
I want to say something
But do you?
So maybe we won’t be strangers

You hum to that song on the radio
Every time it comes on
I’ve got it stuck in my head, now, too
Right alongside your face.
We sit here reading our newspapers
And I wonder where that door leads for you

Chorus

Maybe one day
One of us will say something.
Briefly I wonder if that day is today,
That day we’ll no longer be strangers
