Chapter I

Caleb walked down the street quickly, he had just gotten back from talking with his best friend. Yeah, it seemed like an odd thing to do in the middle of the night, but his best friend just so happened to be a hero. Not a superhero, more or less, he had powers from being the son of mystic warriors, you know, superspeed, flight, pyrokenesis that sort of thing. Apparently he and his group of other friends had brought him along because they wanted to warn him about strange goings on in his area, ha, like that could ever happen. There foes were either demons or some human psycopaths, sure he was what they called Mortal, but he could sure as hell take care of himself, like they would ever go after him! How wrong he was, he heard what sounded like deep growling from behind him, freezing in his tracks, he turned and came face to face with what Jared called a hell-hound. "Nice doggy..." he muttered, backing up, the creature rose onto his hind legs "What's going on here!?"

"Ah, so you are the mortal called Caleb..." said a man in a crimzon mask from behind him, before Caleb could even scream, a hand was cupped over his mouth and he was pulled back against the man's body "Stop with your snarling Vrai... Don't want to get Jared here now do you?" the man turned twoards the hell hound who went back onto all fours and shut up.

The next thing Caleb knew, they were floating backward into a small portal and he passed out from the putrid stench that seemed to come out of nowhere.

Riecs High School

Where the hell is Caleb? Jared thought irretatedly, having waited 20 minutes under the stairs at school for him.

"Hey, Jared!" Max called out rushing twoards his friend "Did you hear? Caleb is missing!"

"He's what...?" Jared's inside churned like butter.

"Yeah, they found his backpack in a storm drain by our hangout..." Max said "Not even a trace of him ever being there..."

"Are you trying to tell me that you think they took him...?"

"Have you got a better idea of where he is?" Max replied "He never made it home..."

Jared's eyes crossed, he made an excellent point he could only faintly feel Chris's life force, and that was only possible when he was out of reach. "Max, get Cameron and Amy..." Jared told him "We're not going to school today..."

"Jared are you crazy?"

"If he's in there hands, then I sure as hell am going after him..." Jared replied "Even if I have to do it myself..."

"Fine..." Max took out his Razr and quickly dialed the twin's numbers.
