Author's Note: The first 4 chapters will contain the main Egyptian creation myths, the first creation myth called Yebu(Elephantine). These are all essentially re-tellings, however I will add my own style to make it more interesting. There will be philosophy mingled in with these stories as well. Also, I am not going to be using the classic names given to the Kemetic(Egyptian) deities. I just see it as "impure" and I have been using the "true" names for a couple years now. I know the word "Uncreation" is not technically a word in the English language. I thought it sounded eerie, so "Uncreation" it was! XD
Creation Myth #1: Yebu
I am the potter who molds the clay, using my hands to form and sculpt a creation. I am the holy ram born from the nothingness. I have always been and will always be. There is nothing but white in this never-ending existence, nothing but blank, nothing with color. I create pots, an infinite number that pile on top of each other in this timeless eternity. This is really all I know how to do or not know how to do. My pots come in all shapes and sizes, from the tiniest to the biggest, from thin to fat, from rounded to square. They have color, at least they are the same color. There is no distinguishing them from other colors.
I am Khnum, the father of creation, the holy ram. I had to change my ways; I had to try something new. Something I had never done before. There had to be something that could replace this wasteland I called the nothingness. I took a giant glob of clay, laid it down and began spinning my potter’s wheel. I lost track of everything, something called time, which was born from my creation. I spun the wheel so fast that the clay literally exploded everywhere. I fell back, unaware of the unseen powers which I had been born with. I almost flew back into the nothingness. With the explosion came a big bang, light and dark forming and expanding. The light was called harmony and the darkness was called chaos. They were the balance, of what I called the order of the universe. Both chaos and harmony were the necessary proponents for creation and destruction. One could not live without the other and one could be no more powerful than the other.
But out of the harmony and chaos came the non-existence, something neither light nor dark. It tried swallowing up the chaos and harmony to create the nothingness which had only plagued my environment moments before. The non-existence was killing my creation. The non-existence was an unfathomable serpent, even darker than chaos, who called himself Apep, the Uncreation. Greedily, Apep swallowed the order of the universe. Harmony and chaos fought over one another, creating magnificent explosions which would bore stars. It was out of this disorder that elements were born, all needed to build the universe; that is, if Apep didn’t destroy my creation and turn it into nothingness.
Quickly I began to spin more clay on my potter’s wheel. Modeled after me, I gave birth to my first child. As soon as his eyes opened, he sprung from the wheel full of energy. Yet there was a type of immeasurable power emanating from him. It was something I truly feared, for he was a child of chaos. He called himself Set for I gave him no name. From then on, it was only Set who could tame and repel the Apep the Uncreation. Unfortunately, Apep cannot die.
After everything was back in balance, I formed all the other gods and goddesses. Just to name only a few there was Wesir, Aset, Nebthet, Shu, Tefnut, Ma’at, Amun, Geb, Nut, and many more. Perhaps there were an infinite number of gods and goddesses I created.
Then came humanity modeled after the gods, yet not necessarily like them. Humanity would be mortal but they were also the masters of their own fate. I would play no part in their lives, for I know nothing except clay and spinning. Humanity would dominate their world, starting out slowing then expanding beyond the known borders which they would create. Humanity would not be alone; they would have their adversaries. The animals came next, precisely what I would like to call living beings. Some examples of those would include fish, reptiles, mammals, birds, invertebrates, and plants. Humanity belonged in the animal category as well, paired with the mammals. All of these creations came from clay.
I gave humanity and all the other living beings a brain so all could think and operate differently. I molded bones to hold the body in place, organs to allow life, muscles to allow movement, skin to protect everything else in place and blood to create circulation. I created pain and pleasure. Pain was chaos and pleasure was harmony. There always had to be a balance; you couldn’t have one without the other.
…And then I watched. Or more specifically, I waited. I had no control from then on. Is this merely a game to me? Is this an experiment or something more? I cannot say for even I, an immortal, know nothing. Knowledge will grow with the new creation…or perish because of fools. I am hoping to the least that knowledge will flower, and from that knowledge will bloom more creation.
The only thing I know is that I am the potter. Now I go back, sit down, spin the clay, and create more pots.
