Inertia Strikes Again

I have to get over you

Forget the blackness of your hair

Banish your ringing laughter

From the tangle of my recollections

I have to get over you

Cut that which our minds once shared

Thresh your words away from mine

Different as we always were

I have to get over you

And make our afternoons fade

Forget that I once helped you

Even when you didn’t ask

I have to get over you

Unlearn how you helped me dance

Ignore all the things you said

As good as they made me feel

I really have to get over you

Stop wishing you are near me

When you’re someplace in the distance

While I try to forget…and realize I cannot.
