As my alarm clock went off, I groggily fought to get out of bed. “Great, I had another Spam dream. I mean, it must be a dream if my daydreams came true, but what is all of this nonsense about this Mary Stewart character. I don’t know anyone named Mary Stewart. Oh well, I’ll just get through yet another day. Darn, I have a Health test!” I thought. It was another terrible Thursday with a full schedule. A good breakfast was what I needed, but that was not what I would get. I fell asleep again and I was not woken up until about ten minutes before we had to go.
I hated waiting in the halls those days before school, but the hallways with no climate control were never very cold until December, and it was only early November. Finally, the 7:55 bell rang and I went to Miz O’s classroom for Honors Composition. We got done with the prayer and pledge and went to writing. I got done with two more of my paragraphs and headed over to my mom’s classroom for Geometry A. As usual, my mother’s lecture was downright boring with more of her intentionally bad jokes. I scanned over the homework after we finished the class work, but since I was exempt from homework, I put my book away.
Most people were happy when ten-minute break came along, but I never really thought much of it because there was nothing worthwhile doing in ten minutes except eating and going to the restroom, but because I didn’t eat at that time, all I did was just lean against the wall. Luckily, it was over relatively quickly and I was heading toward Mr. Petrof’s World History Class at the end of the hall. I was now taking handwritten notes because my PDA had been crushed in my book bag a few weeks before. I liked the way Mr. Petrof did his history class, but he was a very boring teacher.
After Mr. Petrof said, “Calm down! I will hear these announcements,” I went to lunch and sat at the bench where Thomas LaPointe was. Now was the perfect time to study for that health test. It must have been the longest period of the day because it seemed endless, but it was then time for the best class of the day: Computer Applications! I got my typing done and worked on the Fructbar with Tristan Carter. After lowering the flag with Daniel, I did my homework in my mom’s room during tutorials.
This was basically how my life continued for the rest of the year. There were a few things, but it was basically the same thing overall. I was deemed most likely to succeed in the freshman class, and I was the most outstanding student with a weighted GPA of 4.1. Summer vacation eventually came and my dad and I went sailing in Kentucky. I then went to summer camp with Troop 4 at Camp Tukabatchee. This was followed by a trip to Lake Erie to sail and to visit my brother and godmother. The next thing I new, the new school year had begun. Our school finally had a band.
Well, I made it home from choir practice around 9:20 at night. It had taken a long time to prepare for the Triduum. I went to work on my book and realized that I had not brought my Catholic Doctrine book home to do my homework. “Oh, well, I can do that tomorrow,” I thought. To think, I hadn’t studied at all for my Huckleberry Finn test first period in Mr. Conway’s class, which I called Conway IB although it was officially known as Honors American Literature. Of late I had been looking for a few minutes at EWTN on the television before bed to put me in a sort of prayerful attitude. I needed more rest than I would get.
