Typical

It's so typical of you
To single out the shy girl
And lay into her.
She never did anything
Yet you feel a need to rant to her
And yell at her
And scream in her ear until she's so upset
And so mad
That she can't see straight.
And you know what?
Hugs can't solve that.
You can't just start telling her how much you hate
Emos or preps or jocks or whoever.
She knows emos and preps and jocks and whoever.
Emos aren't always mean and depressed, you know.
Preps aren't always ditzy.
To try to convince her otherwise
It's just so typical.
She's too quiet
To do anything but sit there
And take it.
She won't stand up for herself
Or her friends
That you insulted.
She'll sit there
In stony silence
And listen to every word you say
Taking it all in.
She'll go home
And cry about it
And then nothing will ever be the same
Because the girl you shared everything with
Feels betrayed and insulted.
It's just so typical
That the quiet ones are the ones to yell at
For all your problems
And expect them to be there the next time.
The least you could do is apologize
But that won't happen.
One day she'll grow a backbone
And fight for herself.
Where will you be then?

This poem was brought about by a series of events, not just one. Some of them happened to me, some happened to people I know, and some I watched happen to people I don't know. It's for all quiet girls who were ever yelled at for something that didn't involve them, all the people who are ranted to for things out of their control, and for anyone who ever had anything like what was going on in this poem happen to them.
