Corners

In the corners they all sat

Their faces long and stories flat

I want to join them anyway

Sit and talk the night away

But the beating groove of ‘lectric drum

Cannot let my heart stay numb

I join into that infernal mob

As men do sweat and pulses throb

Still I look back to that cornered place

And the happy smiles on their face

I am so alone in this crazy floor

And with a sigh I dance no more

Now in the corner I do sit

Watching the pale clock do tick

Why can’t I be in both at once

To sit and talk and prance and flaunt

This small round room does seem so cold

Without my partner for me to hold

I wonder why I’m even here

For rips out my heart and destroys my ears
