One thing I do not understand,
In the world of poetic time,
Why people continue to stand
Against this annoying backdrop of rhyme.

Assonance! My dears, is key,
If you want to really write,
Well enough to really be
A writer good enough to excite.

For who doesn’t love Assonance?
It’s sounds are so sweet,
You simply can’t look askance,
It’s something you simply can not beat.

So next time you want to rhyme,
Think about it first, you’ll see,
If you want to have a good time,
Assonance, my friends, is key.

A/N: This poem is NOT meant to be offensive. I heard someone read a poem out that had terrible, terrible rhyming in it, and it reminded me why I hate rhyme. So the solution? Write a poem promoting Assonance above rhyme, is rhyming form using most of the terrible things that make people HATE rhyme (including the having to mispronounce a word (askance in this case)).
