BEING LEFT BEHIND

I stand by the road

And watch the cars go by

It’s the story of my life

Standing still watching

It wasn't a choice I made

It was one made for me

Just when I wanted to step out

Someone always got there first

The eternal wallflower? I think not.

I throw myself into the fray

It isn't my fault

That no one chooses to catch me

All around me people change

Why does it seem I am still the same?

They move on to other things

I am stuck.

I can't believe this is my fate

To simply watch

As new things come into play

And not being asked to get up to bat

What makes me so different?

I put myself out there.

No one seems to notice

I am there but no one can see me

So I stand here and wait

Wait for the day

That when I step out

People will see me and smile

The day when I can have

All the things I couldn't

All the things I have missed

And I will begin to move

I won't stand forever

My feet already starting to take steps

But what am I walking toward?

Only God knows.
