There Comes A Time To Say Goodbye

There comes a time to say goodbye
To loves at times we least expect;
And powerless are we, mortal men;
Who can the Fates correct?

Love came meekly in winter,
Blossoming vividly in spring,
Bearing fruit in happy summer,
Still youthful in its lusty ring.

But autumn is my heart to you,
Colder, emptier, and lonelier
My breath to you, like a grave chill;
My kisses desperate, wanting to be freer.

Perhaps it is time we faced the truth;
Our love is not what it has been.
It’s time we let our tired love rest,
And no longer practice summery sin.

I still love him, ah, gentle friend,
But like melancholy autumn...
Like the dead.
