The Light That Blinds

There was no smile on my face

--when your camera flashed

I know that when your film is developed

you will flip crisply through the photos

and when you get to my unsmiling face

--you will frown.

You always ask,

why do I ruin your photos?

Why do I always frown?

I will only answer as I have always answered:

I am sorry.

Then I will go lay down.

The truth is,

is that the sun is always in my eyes.
