Prologue

It was the 9th month of Stephanie’s pregnancy and Carl was rushing her to the hospital; but the old mare was not able to make the journey and she collapsed in the deep snow; dead. In the woods Stephanie had her baby while Carl watched over her. The little child, whom they named Judice, came into the world in the cold night of November. They loved her very much and protected her from the other villagers; the other villagers thought that she was evil because she had been born in the woods, a sign of a witch. But the more their daughter grew up the more they began to think she was a witch. She talked to herself and she killed small rodents; hanging the dead bodies in her room. The last straw was when she murdered another child. Carl and Stephanie took Judice with them and left the village.
