Tyler and Sharon crashed into the soft grass outside the forest. “NO! Tyler you must die! And now that you have irritated me; your death will be slow and horrible. You have one more chance,” Judice said as Midnight came up to stand beside her. Judice turned and jumped on Midnight’s back; she turned and galloped away. “What did she mean by ‘one more chance’?” Sharon asked looking at Tyler. “I don’t know,” Tyler replied, “but we need to make a plan to get rid of Judice, she seems to be unable to leave the forest; when I escaped her last time she didn’t chase me past the woods. But I think that with time she could become powerful enough to allow herself to leave the woods.” As they started to walk to the farm, Tyler suddenly mumbled something under his breath and started to run. Sharon tried to hurry after Tyler but her sprained ankle didn’t allow her to go that far. “Tyler, come back,” Sharon shouted but Tyler didn’t seem to hear her or just ignored her.

When night fall came Tyler returned carrying a large book under his arm. Tyler went to his room and opened the book and began to read it. Sharon entered the room, but Tyler was so absorbed in the book that he didn’t notice her come in. Sharon walked around and looking over his should read the first line in the book; “Se largane str forste favgrin”. Sharon gasped and backed away; Tyler still was absorbed in the book and didn’t hear her. “Why are you reading that?” she asked. Tyler looked up and turned around to stare at Sharon. “What?” Tyler asked, “How long have you been standing there?” he asked picking up the book and covering it protectively with his arms. Sharon reached out a hand to touch Tyler’s face, but he pulled away suddenly; his stared at her as if he had never seen her. Sharon looked down at the book in Tyler’s arms and noticed that it was glowing faintly. She jumped forward and grabbed the book and tried to pry it from Tyler’s hands. His grip loosened and as the book left his hands he started to shake and sweat. He took one step toward Sharon, who backed up against the wall still holding the book; Tyler took another step, groaning, and then collapsed on the floor at Sharon’s feet.

Tyler woke up to the quietness of his room; he saw Sharon over in the corner sleeping in the chair by the fire place. He sat up, noticing the food that was by the bed on a table and began to eat. Sharon woke up and walked over to Tyler, “What happened to me?” Tyler asked looking up from his food, “How long have I been asleep?” Sharon hesitated before answering, “You have been asleep for two days, don’t you remember what happened?” Tyler stared at Sharon and then looked at the bed, “I don’t remember anything, I remember buying the book in the store and then going to my room but I can’t remember past that.” Tyler shot his head up to look into Sharon’s eyes, “What did you do with the book?” he asked urgently. Sharon got up and went to the chair by the fire place and lifted the heavy book and brought it over to Tyler. “I came in and you were reading this book, when I spoke to you, you looked at me like you didn’t know me and when I took the book from you, you started acting very strange, as if you had gotten sick all of the sudden. It was really scary,” Sharon said, shuddering at the memory. Tyler opened his arms and Sharon leaned into him, crying into his shirt. “Are you going to get rid of the book?” Sharon asked between sobs. “I need that book, it was a book I remember Judice reading one day in the village when we were younger when I asked her what she was reading she closed the book quickly and hid it behind her back. She refused to tell me what it was. I think that in that book is a way to stop her,” Tyler said looking down at Sharon. She looked up into his dark eyes, “Why would you want to risk it; what if you die because of that book?” Tyler looked away from Sharon. “The only way to defeat Judice is with the same thing that she uses to attack,” he said, more to himself than to Sharon. “You can’t do that, you were not yourself when you had that book, it is dangerous!” Sharon said, holding on to Tyler. Tyler looked at her and slowly pried her hands off, “I need to do this, and I know that it’s dangerous but I am willing to take that risk if it means that I can save you. I don’t want Judice to kill you; if you remain with me Judice will want to kill you before she kills me. Judice is just twisted like that, so I am going to look for a spell that will send you away from here.” Sharon looked at Tyler and said, “I am going to help you defeat Judice. I know you don’t want me to but you can distract her while I do what it takes to kill her.” Tyler hadn’t thought about that; if Judice suspected that he was going to kill her she would do anything to stop him. So he agreed to let Sharon help. He got out of bed and went to the book, slowly, he opened the book. The book then glowed, as if alive, and the pages began to turn very fast, finally they stopped at a page. Tyler bent down to read the title of the section: Binding Spell; A way to live forever.

Tyler read the title again and began to read about it. It was a spell that binds a person’s remains to an object; the person will live as long as the object remains untouched. The illustrations depicted a young man bursting into flames and another illustration shows a small tree with the outline of a skeleton visible in the tree and the man who now looked transparent. “This is how she did it, she somehow put her bones into an object and that object must remain untouched.” He read further and saw a section that showed a way to track someone’s bones and a way to destroy them. Tyler turned to look at Sharon, “We need to find her bones.” Sharon looked hard at Tyler; he didn’t seem to be acting the same way he was yesterday. Turning her attention back to the book she asked, “How do we find the bones?” “We go back to the forest and chant this spell, a path will form and we will follow it to the resting place of Judice. And then we have to make plans for destroying the bones.”

Tyler and Sharon got ready to leave first thing in the morning. They took only the book with them. Sharon seemed to hesitate when they reached the edge of the woods, which were now farther then usual; this was one of the spots where many trees were cut down. It took five minutes to reach the village. Once in the village Tyler opened the book and started to mumble the spell. At that instance, a pale yellow strip of light appeared on the ground. Tyler and Sharon stood up and began to follow the yellow line. As they walked Tyler felt that something was wrong yet he couldn’t figure out what was wrong. They reached a small clearing; the yellow line continuing on in and stopping at a small stump in the middle of the clearing. For a split instant a section of the stump lit up in the outline of a pile of bones. Sharon was about to walk through when Tyler grabbed her arm and pulled her down. He gestured to an area of the clearing and pointed out a few wolves sleeping in a group. Tyler backed up away from the clearing and walked away. He stopped when he was out of earshot of the clearing. “We need to get out of here,” Tyler said as he turned around to look at Sharon. “Why can’t we go in and destroy the bones?” Sharon asked. “We need a plan, as soon as we start to destroy her bones Judice will come after us and try to stop us. We need to learn a few spells and then decide who is going to stay and distract Judice and who is going to destroy the bones. Let’s just get out of here.” As Tyler turned to leave they were surrounded by a pack of wolves; all with glowing red eyes. Now Tyler realized why it felt so weird; last time they were in the forest, Judice had known immediately that they were in there. They had been in there for a lot longer and Judice hadn’t shown herself. She had set a trap and they had walked right into it.

The wolves began to slowly advance, closing the only chances to escape; Sharon help on tight to Tyler, her eyes big and fearful. “So you are trying to destroy me now?” said a voice that Tyler was beginning to hate. Judice walked into the circle of the wolves and smiled at her captors, “Are you ready to die Tyler?”

“You can’t kill me,” Tyler said tightening his grip on the book. “No,” Judice said, her smile never wavering, “but perhaps I can take Sharon.” Judice turned her eyes to Sharon; her smile widening. Tyler hurriedly opened the book and started flipping though the pages. “I see you found my old spell book that I used to read. You really think that a few spells can stop me? I have been reading and learning spells from that book before you even came to the village,” Judice’s voice seemed to sadden as she spoke to Tyler, “We used to be such good friends. If you hadn’t betrayed me then we could have both been in this together. We could have destroyed the village together, and enjoyed it. Why did things have to change?”

“I found out that you were evil; you killed the other kid’s pets so we thought that it was only fair that your pet suffer the same fate all the other pets had to suffer,” as soon as Tyler said that he shouted out a spell. And in a bright flash of light, Tyler and Sharon vanished. “NO!” Judice screamed; power shooting out of her and setting the trees ablaze. Judice turned away from the fiery blaze and went to her stump. She stared down at her remains, “If Tyler thinks he is going to get his hands on my bones than he is gravely mistaken.”

The bright flash of light appeared in the middle of the farm and Tyler and Sharon fell into a tangled heap. The light at the farm house came on and Sharon’s father came out to see what had caused the bright light. When he saw that it was just his daughter and her husband he turned and went back into the house. Sharon got up and helped Tyler to his feet, “How are we going to destroy Judice?” Tyler walked a short distance and stopped; looking at the sky, deep in thought. “One of us needs to distract her while the other destroys her bones. I will distract Judice and you need to destroy the bones, I’ll teach you the spell that will destroy the bones. Make sure you don’t waste any time, I am not sure how long I could hold Judice off. The minute she discovers what we are planning she will come rushing to defend her bones, make sure you have started to destroy them before then.” Sharon stared at Tyler; she knew that he wouldn’t rest until Judice was dead. “Teach me the spell and I won’t let you down.”

It took a while, but Sharon soon got the hang of the spell; Tyler felt that it would be good if Sharon learned defense spells incase the wolves were guarding the stump. Soon after Sharon learned all the spells Tyler taught her, they set out into the forest. They returned to the clearing where a pack of wolves were now patrolling the perimeter of the clearing. Sharon stayed farther back and hidden while Tyler proceeded on into the clearing. Judice was sitting down on the stump with one of her wolves lying in her lap. She looked up with surprise as Tyler walked into the clearing; but she quickly recovered. “Why Tyler, what are you doing back here so soon? I wasn’t expecting you to return for another few days.” She stood up and smiled a harsh cold smile. “Well, I decided that I couldn’t wait long enough to watch your sorry corpse burn!” Tyler shouted, looking with hate at the one person he used to like. “Oh, but where is dear Sharon, were you too worried that I would kill her and make you watch?” Judice said with a cold laugh. Her laugh instantly died away as Tyler ran past her to the other end of the clearing and ran into the woods. “Sorry Tyler, you are not going to escape me this time.” Tyler ran fast running to the village, hoping that it was far enough so Judice couldn’t get back to the clearing in time. He glanced back and saw that neither Judice nor her wolves were pursuing him. Had she found Sharon and killed her? Suddenly something big crashed into Tyler and threw him to the ground; he turned over just as a wolf leapt on top of him growling. Tyler stretched his arm out around him searching for a weapon. His hand came across a branch lying on the ground; grabbing it Tyler forced the stick into the wolf’s stomach, hardening the stick with magic so that it was like steel. The dead wolf fell on top of him and he had to use magic to heave the wolf off of him.

As soon as he was free he started to run again but Judice appeared in front of him and knocked him back. He flew several feet before crashing into the remains of a store. He jumped up and ran but a flash of green light hit him and slammed him into the ground. This time it took him longer to stand up and by the time he staggered into a kneeling position Judice was staring down at him. He shouted a spell as fire leapt out of his hand, Judice knocked it aside and it crashed into a tree setting it on fire. “Well, well, looks like you learned a thing or two from that spell book,” Judice said with a laugh, “It won’t do you any good.” Judice was not expecting the next attack and was hit in the chest by a beam of light out of Tyler’s hand. Furious, Judice lashed out and hit Tyler with a strong wind. The wind knocked Tyler back into a tree; when he got up into a sitting position he felt something running down his face and reached his hand up, wiping his face. When he pulled his hand away he saw that it was covered with bright red blood. Judice crouched down so that she was looking into Tyler’s eyes, “I’m sorry that I have to do this, but you do need to die.” Tyler met Judice’s red eyes, “You can’t kill me; you have already tried three times and failed.” Judice straitened up; her smile widening, “Tyler, the only reason that you escaped me those three times was because when I was burning Megara’s worthless pack of bones she made a curse saying that you would escape me three times. And you had your three chances to escape. Now that the curse doesn’t exist anymore, I can kill you.” For the first time since entering the forest Tyler felt a feeling of great fear rising up in his chest as Judice laughed above him.

Back at the clearing, Sharon was busy fighting off the remaining wolves. She had scared off a bunch and now only four remained. Sharon shouted a spell, aiming at the last of the wolves. The wolves ran off yelping in pain; a few with their fur on fire. Sharon ran to the stump and found the faint outline of the bones. Raising her hand to the bones she got ready to say the spell. All of a sudden the bones began to glow a soft white light. Sharon stared as the bones began to fade. They got fainter and fainter until they vanished completely.
