Mike jumped up and spun around, the Cutter was standing over him, carrying a large knife that was bright and shiny from fresh blood. Mike turned and ran to the front of the library; the old woman was nowhere to be seen. Mike ran out of the front of the library and saw the police car in the parking lot. He ran up to it but saw to his horror that blood was splattered on the inside of the windshield. A cold laugh sounded behind him and he jumped, running past the car.
Mike ran hard and fast down the sidewalk, panting as a stitch formed in his side. He looked behind him as he ran and saw the Cutter calmly following behind him; not even putting an effort in catching him. Suddenly, pain shot up Mike’s leg and he started to fall. He looked down to see that his foot had hit an uneven crack in the sidewalk. He fell down hard and his head slammed into the concrete. He screamed as pain flared up in his head; it felt like his head was going to explode. He slowly rose into a sitting position but he suddenly became dizzy.
His vision clouded as a figure appeared over him. Mike blinked; trying to stay conscious, but darkness took over and he hit the ground.
There was an eerie laugh that filled the room, bouncing off the walls and the Cutter’s voice pierced through the darkness, “Why did you call me Benjamin?”
Mike’s voice shook and he had to take a deep breath before continuing, “I read about your legend, how you had fallen in love with Meredith but she was accused as a witch and burned. You killed off Jake’s entire family and then you just dropped dead; because of all the evil thoughts.”
“Aye, most of that is true except for that last detail of yours. They say I dropped dead because of all the evil thoughts going through my mind. They began telling stories about me, cutting up victims for the sport of it. Well, the fact is I wasn’t killed by evil thoughts; I had a strange disease that I had had since I was a little boy. The disease had finally eaten away at me when I killed Jake’s family, that’s all,” the Cutter said, "I no longer go by my weak human name though."
“So how come you’re here now?” Mike asked.
“A certain person read about my skills and thought I would make a good body guard and she brought me back to life. Only, I am not fully alive, I have to steal my victim’s energy to sustain me. The girl that brought me back to life thought she could control me, but with every night I grew stronger and her hold over me grows weaker and weaker.”
“Who is this unfortunate person?” Mike asked, truly intrigued.
“I do believe you know her quite well, she was my prisoner last time, although the sole purpose of that was to lure you into my trap but now I do think it is time to kill her. But first, I’ll take care of you!”
Mike thought quickly and said, “But you said that you could only draw energy from people on the night of the full moon.”
The Cutter laughed and said, “Yes, that may be true but I want you dead so bad that it is really worth killing you before the full moon appears. Get ready for pain Mike!”
The Cutter then slowly dragged the sharp blade of the knife against Mike’s legs, causing him to scream in pain. Mike fought against his bindings trying to break free.
The Cutter laughed. “What’s the matter Mike? Are you in too much pain? Do you want me to take care of you quickly like I did with James? Well, I’m sorry, you are going to go through this nice and slowly! I want you to be in the worst kind of pain there is!”
The Cutter began to randomly slash at Mike’s legs, still slowly, until they were covered in cuts and were bleeding freely. Then he stopped.
Mike had his eyes closed during much of the torture but he slowly opened one when he no longer felt the blade on his skin. He breathed heavily and looked up at the Cutter, hoping it was over. But a big grin split across the Cutter's face as if he read Mike’s thoughts.
“Sorry, Mike, I’m just getting started!”
The Cutter then slashed through Mike’s shirt. Mike screamed loudly as the blade scraped across his stomach. Over his screams he could hear the Cutter laughing.
But then, suddenly, a knife blade appeared through the Cutter' s stomach. He let out a gasp and looked down at the knife. He spun around to see who had attacked him. But he grinned when he saw Kathy standing at the entrance.
“Hello, Master!” The Cutter said, still smiling.
Mike opened his eyes when he heard Benjamin say master. He was shocked when he saw Kathy standing there, her eyes full of fury.
“How dare you?!” Kathy asked her voice full of venom, “You are supposed to obey me. You killed so many people for no reason but I excused you for that. But when you took it a step farther and attacked my boyfriend that was the last straw!”
“You can’t kill me,” the Cutter said, “I’ve been drawing so much energy from people that I am immune to anything you try to kill me with!”
“Not quite,” Kathy said and she pointed to the knife that was still embedded in the Cutter's chest. The blade was glowing blue and there were strange symbols all over it. There was a loud sizzling sound and smoke began to rise up from the Cutter's body. He screamed in pain, clutching his stomach and attempting to rip the knife out of his chest. He was unable to pull it out and with a final scream he fell to the floor motionless. Kathy ran up and began to untie Mike and asked, “Are you okay?”
Mike shook his head as a wave of dizziness passed over him. He leaned over as he felt himself gagging. He opened his mouth as he began heaving and blood dribbled out of his mouth. He coughed and more blood poured out of his mouth. Kathy gasped and then grasped Mike’s arm and helped him to his feet.
“We need to get you to a hospital; I’ll explain everything on the way.”
They ignored the body on the ground as they made their way out of the warehouse. Neither paid heed to the Cutter’s face as his eyes flew open, red with fury.
