Yesteryear + Yesterday
Old daydreams fall into these:
dying hopes and memories-
Incredulous, in twos or threes,
these falling hearts are the keys
to days long past
and photographs-
fading colours not made to last.
Reflections of a yesterday;
a yesteryear
was child's play,
and all there is
is now,
today.
Just a dance on the flower's field,
a harvest of hearts
too content to yield.
For the morrow brings what all it will
and still
we run far from shattered dreams
broken toys
and ripping seams
from friends,
and friends-or-so-they-seem...
because we weren't made to see.
Memories grow old and countless,
save for all of us-
continually, we count this
as perfect time,
the simple rhyme
we strive hard for...
and miss.
Say we don't deserve this.
For yesteryear and yesterday
were frivolous times of child's play
and in that shattered mirror stay.
We all, content,
just fade away.
