Deception in Your Eyes

You ask me how I’m doing

I think twice before I reply

Your eyes are full of kindness

But deception

Runs through the words

Seed of poison prevalent fall

Thickly in the woods of life

Littering the path with temptation sweet

Coloured berries

Carry the strains of instant death

Can you hear the music on the wind?

The chimes and bells, so sickly sweet

A fitting cover for the tempest coming

Heavy winds

Bear hidden truths and reveal lies

Flickering eyes give you away, caught in the act

Trying to take what isn’t yours

Deceiving the world with clear eyes

Conscience clear

Of any wrongdoing, for how could perfection be flawed?

Work in the shade, the sun hides behind a cloud

Destroy us all when hope is faint

Take what little we have

Our silent tribute

To your patron god

Show me my self-worth

In a slow downward spiral

I can’t stop your actions as they are

I can only

Trudge though the mire

Your smile screams kindness

And unless you dig quite deep

That kindness is true, but not even you

Can shut out

The world completely

So pick up your poison berries

Silence your bells, stop the wind

Pack up, go home

Leave in peace

That which you have already destroyed
