A Distinctive Personality

She paced around on the old linoleum floor of her kitchen glancing irritably back towards the stove. Why wasn’t the stupid water burning yet? She was hungry goddammit! She spun around quickly making the long and heavy single braid swing out behind her, hitting an open cabinet door with a thwack that solidly closed it. She glared at the macaroni and cheese box sitting innocently on the counter; her light blue eyes hurling miniature daggers magnified by the small lenses over her face.

The directions were simple enough. Pour water into a pot, put it on the oven, turn on that flame thingy, wait for bubbles then dump in the pasta and cheese and proceed with the eating. Now even the water was being defective! She aimed a well placed kick at the oven door, forgetting she wasn’t wearing her steel toed boots inside today. “Ow! Goddamn, stupid fucking…” Her voice trailed off into mumbles as she hopped around the kitchen on one foot cursing under her breath and waited for her friend to come and help her do it right.
