Sharon hurried to the village in search of Tyler. The wolves that had tried to attack her earlier were nowhere to be found. It was getting darker and she was having trouble seeing. In the twilight she saw a mass in the middle of the village. She hurried over to it and collapsed on the ground; she pulled the figure on its back and burst into tears. Tyler stared up into the sky with a blank stare; his eyes glassy. Dried blood was caked all over his face and more blood was dripping out of the corner of his mouth. Sharon cried as she held Tyler in her arms. Using one of the spells she had learned she was able to transport herself to her room where she placed Tyler’s body on the bed and lying down next to him, cried herself to sleep.

Sharon awoke the next morning to see her father leaning over her. When he saw that she was awake he put some porridge in front of her and told her to eat. While she was eating her father asked her the question she was dreading, “What happened?” Sharon slowly placed the food on the table next to her, “it is a long story, and you may want to sit down.” So her father sat on the edge of the bed and placed a hand on Sharon’s shoulder, “tell me,” he said. So Sharon took a deep breath and told her father the tale from the point where Tyler had first told her to the part where she found Tyler dead. Her father sat there the whole time and just listened. When Sharon had finished he said, “First, we need to bury Tyler and then gather your things, we will be leaving.” Sharon’s head shot up and she looked at her father, “leaving? What do you mean leaving?” she asked. “You need to get away from this farm and the memories; they are too much for you.”

Sharon walked to the small graveyard where they buried Tyler, her father back at the house getting the few things they would need before they moved. Sharon cried as she walked and sat down by Tyler’s grave, in her hand she carried the spell book. “I promise Tyler, I am not leaving you behind.” She walked out of the graveyard and instead of going back to the farm house Sharon made her way to the woods where Tyler had lost his life, calling out to her father that she was going to take a walk in the woods. She walked deeper and deeper; farther than she has every gone before. She found herself in a small clearing and was surprised to see a figure in the middle of the clearing. She stepped forward and saw that it was a statue of a woman. Sharon approached it and noticed that there were dark stains all over the woman’s face and on all the way down the woman’s dress. The statue was intriguing and Sharon felt drawn to it. Sharon thought she could hear the sound of a young girl whispering; the sound was coming from inside the statue. Sharon reached out and touched the statue’s face. At that instant the world dissolved around her.

Sharon immediately pulled her hand back and looked around her. She was in the same clearing except it was the middle of the day and there were fewer trees. Sharon looked around, wondering what she how she got here and how she was going to get back. Then, from the other end of the clearing, another person stepped into the clearing. Sharon ducked behind the statue, trying to hide, but whoever the person was, it didn’t seem to notice her. Sharon cautiously looked out from around the statue and then jumped out at the figure. She was surprised to see that the figure was a young girl. The young girl didn’t even seem to notice that Sharon was standing there. The girl was about 10 years old, she had a long scar running down her face, and in her arms she carried a dog. The dog didn’t seem worried; in fact the dog kept trying to lick the girls face. Sharon knew instantly where she was; somehow she had gone back in time and she was watching Judice about to kill another child’s pet.

She watched as Judice drew a long knife and turned the dog over. Even as the dog was inches from death, he didn’t seem worried or concerned. Only when Judice pierced it with the long knife did the dog let out a terrified howl. Sharon screamed and backed away from the horrible scene. As the vision faded Judice placed the dying dog on top of the statue. Sharon returned to the present and sank to the ground and sat there panting. She had heard from Tyler how gruesome Judice was but seeing it first hand was a terrible sight. She looked down as her hand bumped against something hard, it was the spell book. Opening it she began to read it starting from chapter 1 she was going to keep reading until she had read the entire book. She wanted to become powerful enough to perform the spell that would bring someone back from the dead. But as she read she didn’t know about the deadly consequences from reading the book.

Sharon read and read through the rest of the day. Soon it was night, getting colder and colder; but Sharon was oblivious to the cold surrounding her. She was so wrapped up in her book that she didn’t see the glowing red eyes and the dark masses of shadows surrounding her. When a howl sounded very near Sharon jumped looking around, she noticed that there were about a dozen wolves scattered out around her lying on the ground; the wolves’ red eyes were staring at the book in her arms. Sharon looked down and realized why; the book was glowing a faint green. The wolves were attracted to the green light because it reminded them of Judice. Sharon held out her hand thinking of the book and its power; at that instant her hand began to glow. One of the wolves slowly got up and came to Sharon; this wolf sat at the edge of the group and its ribs could be seen clearly through its skin. Sharon sat there as the wolf sniffed her hand then it jumped up and began to lick her face excitedly, at that instant the other wolves walked up and sat around her yelping happily. Sharon was surprised but guessed that the one had sniffed the magic in her hand and thought that she had some connection to Judice. At first this frightened Sharon, she didn’t want any connection with that woman, but she soon realized that she was a step closer to bringing Tyler back. So she sat down in the middle of the wolf circle and continued to read.

By the time she had finished to book there was a strange tingling in her hands. She looked down at them to see that they were glowing a stronger color and as she stood up she noticed that the rest of her body was glowing too. Just then she got a tingle in her nose and she sneezed. As she sneezed there was an explosion as a bright light shot out of Sharon’s body; hitting the trees nearby. The forest around her caught fire; she yelled and the wolves around her howled in fear. The fire spread around her but left the small clearing untouched; the wolves crowded around her whimpering slightly. The fire spread out farther, igniting the surrounding trees. As Sharon looked around she realized that she was trapped in the clearing. The heat of the fire surrounded her but the fire didn’t come any closer. Sharon wondered if it was because of the clearing or because of her. Just then a whinny came from within the flames; a dark shadowy figure could be seen within the fire. All that was truly visible were the eyes which were a deep red. The figure jumped into the clearing and Sharon saw that it was Midnight; the horse came toward Sharon and stopped in from of her. Sharon held out her hand and Midnight sniffed it, tossing his head with a snort. Sharon stroked his side and was able to pull herself on to his back. She waited to see what he would do but he stood there calmly. Suddenly he leapt forward and jumped into the fire.

Sharon screamed as Midnight plunged into the fiery blaze. But the fire didn’t burn her; it was as if there was a shield around her, protecting her from the fire. Around her the wolves ran occasionally one let out a bark to which the others would respond. Sharon looked behind her and saw the clearing being over taken by the fire. Midnight ran faster through the flames as though they weren’t even there with the wolves following closely behind. Sharon looked down in her arms and was shocked to see her holding on to the spell book. She tried to let it go, to let it be burned in the flames but her hand refused to listen to her; she couldn’t let go of the book.

Meanwhile, Sharon’s dad had finished packing and was on his way to go get Sharon from the forest. But he gasped in horror when he saw the fire spreading throughout the forest. He ran as close as he could, hoping with all his heart that Sharon had made it out but when he didn’t see her he feared the worst. He slowly made his way back to the wagon where all his and his daughter’s belongings were stacked. He got into the wagon and with a flick of the reins urged the horse on, leaving the small cottage house and the memories behind.
