A Ship on the Horizon

By Ancient History Lover

It’s cold.

So cold it seems to pierce right through to your soul.

In the thick fog I see vague shapes and forms.

Oh how they frighten me!

I draw in a shaky breath, the icy air freezing my heart, and burning my lungs.

I stand alone by the shoreline on the beach and . . . do mine eyes deceive me, or do I see . . . Sails. Yes, it is sails! But something is strange and eerie about them.

It slowly and steadily draws nearer and I realize this is no human ship.

Fear strikes my innermost being as I gaze upon this pale, ghostly, phantom, monster making it’s way to the shore.

Suddenly I am unable to scream and rooted to the spot where I stand.

Oh, merciful Lord in heaven please save us!

Oh no . . . please no!

We’re here . . .”
