Author's Notes:  Umm…Sad poem?

Dedication:  To all who've faced the terror of warfare, may blessings make those days look brighter, and make those cold nights warmer.

Despair

If I never saw another butterfly,

Flapping its wings in summer,

Would I truly be human too,

Or would my heart be gone forever?

Would I still be able to sing as my mother's characters do?

Would my voice carry in the wind,

Or be lost among the dead?

Would I be able to ignite the flame,

Which burnt out so long ago,

To save a grieving soul,

Whose heart lay bleeding in the snow?

Would I turn towards to light,

Only to fall back blinded once again,

Or could I stand once more,

And play like children,

Ready to begin again?

Would lyrics still hold their meaning,

If hatred took us all,

And emptied out his clutches,

Into an unfeeling maw?

What does destiny hold tight for me,

In it's burgeoning reign,

Holding us tightly,

So that we may not fall again.

Hold me tight, Mama,

Don’t let me fall again,

I've seen too much sorrow to call it my own,

And I've found myself blind again.

When I came upon the shadowy moon,

I closed my darkened heart,

And let my blinded eyes do the seeing,

Do I still have hope, or am I fallen?

Fallen twice the norm,

And unable to mourn…
