Living On The Thin Wire
Note: I wrote this in about 15 minutes, and simply kept it the way it came out. I think that changing things around might take away from the "natural" essence, the fact that it was simply poured out as opposed to thought out. Reviews and comments greatly appreciated.
Years were spent along the thin wire
Walking slowly
Hardly hoping
Years were spent along that wire
Gunshots fired all the while
Sometimes there were fireworks
Sometimes there were doves
But when you live along thin wire
These things are just a mental shove
That's what it's like
Living on the long thin thread
Pretty girls and lovely worlds
Illusions all around
All you needed to do was fall
And you could have had it all
But you'll lose the gifts at the end of the wire
Is it worth it?
You're not sure
But uncovering the mystery alone
Is enough to rest your soul
The wire soars over desert and sea
The wire spans over city and street
The scenes are gorgeous
The consequences of staring hideous
But one look couldn't hurt all that bad
Two years on the wire you've spent
Rather long
Rather lonely
but in the distance you saw another
walking towards you on the one-way wire
Love from far off
Love not meant to be with one you could hardly see
She knew the wire and she knew the winds
She was your guide forward and you her guide backward
But the wire was not built for two
So she fell
Four feet from embraces' reach
You considered jumping after her
If only you knew where she fell
The wire was too much for her
Too much for you as it was
But mystery drives
And it drives blind
Her fall marked the half way
Two years to go
The thin wire got thinner
Your walking careless
"So what if I fall?
My place is with the fallen
One can not defy gravity long"
On the wire you met love and hate
You soon found they take unlikely face
The wire went in circles
All was dark up, around and down
That dark consumed a year and a half
A good chunk of bad life
The wire lead into a hole
A grave it nearly was
Six months spent in the hole
Six months lost
That you wouldn't trade for the world
But the hand of the father
Reached and pulled you forward
His grace took you
And his love guided you
Four years on the wire
Were they well spent?
The father's grace
Did it guide you to where you did expect?
You stood off the wire and peered into the great empty
only to realise
as you turned around
That the end looked just like the start
As is living on the thin wire
