"Want some cake?" asked the medic, smiling.
His health restored in an instant, he sprang from the sofa and grabbed the grey-haired man by the arm, pulling him from the armchair in which he slept.
"What're you doing?" demanded the man.
"Going."
"Where?"
"Out."
"Go by yourself. I'm not leaving the Sanctuary."
"I need you."
"To do what?"
"Kill him."
----------------------------
Central WinLand, Layer 2. An unidentified craft, painted black and stealthed, lands at the main spaceport. Two figures walk out. Security completely ignores one. The other is immediately pursued by every Arbitrator in the building. He darts through a door and into a lift. The Head of Security's hand reaches out to slam down on the button that will electrify every lift in the building. Just then, four hundred critical error messages go off in all areas of the spaceport. No... not error messages. Repair notifications. By the time he has picked up the phone to answer a call from a panicked Arbitrator, the number has climbed to two thousand.
The other man is already on the other side of the space station. He keys in the security code for the lift, bypassing any order to electrify it, fill it with poison gas, remove the floor or anything else nasty that can happen to him in a lift. Satisfied, he walks in and punches in the code for the 201st floor.
He waits. He waits like an assassin on a roof with a sniper rifle.
When the lift finally dings and the door opens, he walks out into the most enormous office he has ever seen, and he's had to kill more businessmen than he can remember. Behind the solid mahogany desk, behind the young-faced man in a black suit who sat at his tall-backed genuine leather swivel chair, mounted on the wall, was a mirror-sized shard of the One Window.
He hums the Giygas Battle Intro theme from Earthbound as he strides towards the desk. Somehow, he feels it appropriate, even though he has never heard the music that the grey-haired man likes to listen to.
"In the name of the Window, put some CLOTHES on!" complains the man in front of him.
A grim smile plays over his face. He pounces. The glass shard flashes in his hand. Blood sprays from the other man's throat.
"I was a main character, once." he whispered.
