Chapter Nine- Collapse of the Superpower Part Two

KT managed to lose the police chasing her. She didn’t know how she did it, but for the moment they were safe. She would wait out the rest of the night in the abandoned building that she hid Kimi and herself in after KT had separated from their pursuers. It would be best to let Kimi and herself recover from the nights events, and Newn wouldn’t be able to do much until the sun rose anyway, but KT was still worried about the second Dragoni that appeared in the museum.

A purr diverted the android’s attention to the sleeping were-tiger. Her features had returned to their original state. The girl looked much more docile now that she wasn’t thrashing about trying to kill everything that moved. It was odd to KT that a creature of her age could not control that wilder form, but she thought nothing of it as she waited patiently for the sun to rise.

“Thanks for letting me stay at your place, Shen.” Newn said with a grateful grin on his face. He became worried when KT and Kimi didn’t try to get a hold of him all night, but after a relaxing night’s sleep in a bed he couldn’t complain.

“It was my pleasure, after all what are friends for.” Shen laughed as he rapped an arm around Newn’s neck. The two definitely looked as though they had been friends for years, and still they acted like kids.

“Free room and board I guess.” Newn joked only to get a friendly slug in the arm from Shen. The boys made their way toward the park in front of the museum in hopes that the girls would be there.

Little did the two realize was that they were being followed by a brunette that looked to be their age? She was wearing a pair of baggy grey shorts, which looked as though they’ve seen better days, and a white shirt underneath a baggy black vest that her two short swords rested calmly underneath.

“Crap, Shen’s here. Is he the other Dragoni that those two were referring too, or is it the boy with him.” She paused as her eyes drifted onto Newn. “He does look familiar to me, but I just can’t seem to place it.”

It took the group a while to get to the park, even though it was really early in the morning. Thankfully there was no one around so finding KT’s bright blue hair didn’t take forever.

“Hey guys,” Newn said as he ran to the two girls’ while Shen calmly walked towards them a grin spreading across his face. “Did you get it?”

“It wasn’t as difficult as we thought.” KT said calmly as she held out her palm and the diamond rose from it. It once again started to glow in a faint red color.

“Wow a replica of the Hope Diamond.” Shen said in surprise as Newn took the piece of stone from KT. A surge of energy then rippled through his body. It felt odd, but good at the same time.

“Yes, it is. KT is really good at making replicas of things.” Newn scratched the back of his head while Shen complimented the girl on her craftsmanship. KT then noticed that her hand slowly started to stray from its place toward Shen. What about this boy affected the android in such a way?

“You mind if I hold it?” Shen asked as he looked at Newn with pleading eyes.

The brunette that had followed them took to hiding safely behind a tree and was watching the spectacle. What was Shen planning, and who were those people he was with. She had to do something fast otherwise Shen would get the shield stone.

“Actually, Shen I think it would be best if KT held onto it.” Newn sighed and looked at the disappointed look in Shen’s face.

“Give me the shield stone Newn.” Shen suddenly demanded. His face hardened as his eyes glared at Newn with malevolence while his fists clenched tightly.

“Shield stone, what is that supposed to…” Newn started to ask before Shen sent an uppercut into Newn’s gut which launched the red head into the air.

“Don’t play stupid.” Shen said grabbing Newn’s arm and pulling Newn’s head to come into contact with his knee. Shen then grabbed Newn’s leg and threw him into a park bench. “It doesn’t suit you.” Shen then bent down to pick up the dropped diamond only for his arm to be grabbed and held tightly by KT while Kimi ran to Newn to make sure the boy was okay.

With a flick of Shen’s wrist KT is launched away from him as if she was repelled by a magnet. The android’s body easily went through the thick stone wall of the art museum that she was thrown into.

“Looks like I win.” Shen said with a slight chuckle as he held the jewel in his hand. What a lovely prize it was, and with it amplifying his powers nothing could get in his way. Not even.

“Lunar Element: Shadow Crescent.” A large black crescent shaped energy blade flew rapidly towards Shen only to be stopped seconds before it impacted by some unseen barrier.

“Holly, I didn’t know you were in D.C.” Shen said as he snapped his fingers and out of the ground ripped two metal armguard shaped flying things that looked to be equipped with a variety of weaponry.

“Holly,” Newn questioned as he stood up and then watched as the metal wings rushed toward the girl. “Holly!”

Newn ran as fast as he could and as he drew his sword sliced the two metal contraptions in half only for them to repair themselves behind Shen. Newn then skidded to a stop in front of the girl before the mechanisms pointed their tips at the two and both fired a stream of bullets from a Gatling cannon mounted in their front.

“Lunar Element: Lunar Shell.” Holly screamed as she got in front and put up an energy barrier to stop the attack. Newn looked at the girl in front of him, was this really Holly, the little brown haired crybaby that Shen and Newn had to rescue every other day.

“I can’t hold this for long since the sun is up. You have to move out of the way.” Holly turned to look at Newn. She still couldn’t place where she had seen the red head before, but she had to worry about the amount of damage Shen could do with that stone in his possession.

“Right, well luckily the sun is my specialty.” Newn leapt from their position as the barrier dropped and the two machines flew by. He charged a Plasma Bolt in his hand and threw it toward Shen, who just laughed as it wrapped around whatever was protecting him.

“Is that the best you can do hero boy.” Shen chuckled as he vanished and appeared behind Newn. He then grabbed the red head by the collar of his shirt and threw him across the street and into the side of the Washington Monument. The impact caused the wall of the structure to crack as Shen walked toward Newn.

Holly attempted to help, but Shen’s mechanizations looked as though they were keeping her rather busy.

“Why are you doing this Shen?” Newn asked as he shakily stood now that he had returned to the ground. His eyes widened in shock as a car slammed into his position just seconds after he stumbled backward to regain balance.

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m collecting the shield stones.” Shen chuckled as he seemed to float above the car. Newn stood in front of him with his weapon at the ready, but he still didn’t want to face his best friend.

“Why do you need them?” Newn asked as he tried to think of another option to get the shield stone away from his friend and hopefully not have to fight his friend.

“Humanity has grown too spoiled. Their technology is causing the deaths of countless individuals of countless species. I have decided to play my hand. I’ll use this power that I’ve obtained and wipe them from the face of the planet, and those that survive will have no choice but to bow down to me because I will possess all seven shield stones and thus have all of the magic powers of the Earth itself. What say you join me Newn? We can rule over them together.” Shen reached his hand out toward Newn only for a plasma blot to slam against his barrier.

“I think you’re crazy Shen, and I’m going to have to take you down a peg.” Newn said as he leapt at Shen only to be grabbed by the shirt and once again thrown into the stone monument. Then Newn felt himself being carried and soon the two were at the top of the monument before Shen threw Newn rapidly toward the ground.

With a loud “Oof” and the sound of cracking ribs Newn landed and once again stood. It was now that he remembered no matter what during their childhood no one was ever able to hit Shen, not even himself, but maybe if he tried something new.

“Rapi Slash.” Newn screamed as he vanished and appeared in front of Shen only for the silver haired boy to reach out and grab Newn’s sword as the boy swung it. Shen then twisted his wrist and shattered the blade before kicking Newn from the top and into the large pool of water in between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

“Why do you embarrass yourself like this?” Shen screamed as his mechanizations retreated from Holly and returned to behind him. Newn stood and grinned as Shen threw the piece of blade from his hand.

“Because, I’m going to win.” Newn screamed back as he waded through the pond toward Shen. Shen just began laughing at the statement before applauding as if to make fun of the red head.

“Unfortunately, you’ve already lost.” Shen said with a confident smile. “You have no weapon. I have the shield stone, and the high ground. And I have this. Metal Element: Omnicron Obliteration.”

Suddenly, the two metal wings began firing a multitude of energy blasts throughout the city. The blast struck everything as on slammed into the White House and decimated it with one shot while another hit the congress building. Three hit the side of the Washington Monument causing the structure to lean and then collapse on top of Newn.

The attack lasted only for a few moments, but it felt like hours as everything within the attack’s range was devastated instantly. As it subsided, Shen just grinned at his work and flew off as though he were a jet plane.

It took about a minute for movement to be seen in the debris as Holly’s shield deactivated after she shook it a little to reflect the debris around her and Newn off of them. Kimi was able to dodge most of the rubble coming down on her she too climbed out of her debris field while KT walked up to the group. The androids clothes looked more damaged then KT’s actual body.

Newn then walked over to when Shen had thrown his piece of sword and began laughing.

“We can get you a new sword Newn.” Kimi said while looking at the boy with worried eyes. Did this last battle finally cause him to snap?

“Newn,” Holly whispered to herself as she watched the red head as he bent down to pick something up. She smiled as she now recognized the boy. She, Shen and Newn used to be the best of friends, and did virtually everything together until Newn’s parent moved them out of their neighborhood.

“I’m not laughing because of that.” Newn said as he turned to the group. “I remembered that I’ve never been able to beat Shen in combat, but I’ve always been better at paying attention than him.” Newn released his hand and down dangled the shield stone. “He broke my sword with the same hand.”

“Oh Newn,” Kimi said as she ran to hug the boy, but stopped as Holly had beaten her too it and wasn’t just hugging the red head, but kissing him as well. The cat girl’s tail and ears dropped as she fought back the tears welling up in her eyes.

“Yep, that’s Holly.” Newn sighed as he caught his breath before toppling over in exhaustion.

“Those wounds look pretty serious.” KT said calmly as the three girls lifted the boy up and then began to slowly leave the city while a white raven looked on from the debris.

Volume One End.
