The Suffering King

11.8.2007

There once was a king who came to live among dead people

A most unworthy reason, it seems, but in the end would prove true

He shared His love and His promise was eternal life

He wanted everyone to repent from their sins and follow Him.

So this king, born as babe, the son of Mary

Soon grew to be known as the Son of God

He went from city to city preaching the gospel

Many people accepted Him as their Savior.

Twelve men he chose to be His apostles

The secrets of the kingdom He entrusted to them

They spread His word to and fro

In Spirit Jesus was with them always.

For 3 years they walked with Jesus leading them into truth

Proving that He was the Anointed One sent from God

Jesus taught them many things

Soon, they become fishers of men.

Then one day the Savior led them to Jerusalem

With a troubled Spirit the king went to pray

Later, He told his disciples trouble would arise

And, He would be leaving them shortly afterwards.

Parables, miracles, and casting out demons

all this the king did in order to glorify His Father who is in Heaven

Jesus spoke to God often and continued to spread the Word

Everlasting life was given to those who accepted Him.

Then one day that fateful day

Where Judas Iscariot paid for the king's betrayal

Jesus was arrested by evil men

They scorned Him and mocked him

All night long He was bruised and battered

like a lamb being sheered and then slaughtered

The sun rose and He was still taunted by the evil ones

Blood flowed from His pierced wounded body.

Shouting crucify Him, crucify Him

He was led to the skull and nailed to a heavy tree

On the cross He was placed beside two men

One believed He was the King, the other scoffed at Him.

And while upon that cross His Father He tried to call

But His Father, holy and right, turned His Son away

Soon afterwards, Jesus died

His body was wrapped in clean linen and placed in a tomb.

For 3 days He lay still and lifeless

but on the third He rose up defeating death and sin

He returned briefly from heaven to let us know He lives

Jesus paid our price so we could be free to follow him.

Ascending into heaven to pray for us and give us His Spirit

He waits to someday return and gather His people home

He will appear in the sky and call them by name

And He shall be their loving Master forevermore.
