"Something She Doesn't Know"
By: Fantasy Heart
She's been in love with him for 5 years in a row now. And still, he hasn't noticed her. She doesn't know why it's like that. He just… hasn't.
It's actually quite unbelievable though, considering that everybody else notices her. Guys from all over the school court her, chasing her like a cat running away from a dog. But no, she doesn't want them.
She wants him.
But what does she have to do to get him to notice her? Then, like a bullet through her heart, she realizes something.
He is far too in love with his girlfriend, who doesn't even adore him as much as she does.
She always sees them together, laughing, smiling… happy.
But there is something she doesn't know…
He is blinded by his love; he doesn't look somewhere else nor does he mind the obvious flaws of his girlfriend. She had cheated on him 3 times already, but because he loves her so much, he never broke it up with her.
She guesses she's not the only one hurt.
He's hurting too, she can see it in his eyes.
Whenever his girlfriend even takes a glance at some other boy, she can see the skeptical and pained expression in his face. But he never speaks, as if it is nothing to him. But she knows that it is something to him… she's experienced it herself. Even until now.
Everyone is curious, really.
She doesn't have a boyfriend, and no one has a recollection that she even had one. No one knows why she avoids relationships. They always wonder why she, of all people, doesn't have a boyfriend, when she can get anybody she wants.
But…
…the one person she likes doesn't even know her.
And so she stares and loves from far away. Every second pains her. Every minute scars her.
But there is something she doesn't know…
Time flies by, her feelings hurting her. She has to leave for another school, because their family business is going to be moved to the other side of the country. It is news everyone in school knows, it is news everyone dreads. They don't want the popular beauty to leave the school. No one does. Everyone loves her.
Except him.
Practically everyone gives her farewell gifts, wishing her goodbye and good luck. She tries as much as possible to take even the littlest glance towards him, as if she wants to imprint his image in her mind. It isn't very hard to do, actually, considering that she is invisible to him.
She tries to convince herself that this is for the best and as long as he's happy, she is too.
She's just lying to herself.
On her final days in that school, she notices that the relationship between him and his girlfriend is in a storm. They always seem to be fighting, tongue-lashing and stomping away from one another. It hurts her to see her loved one so pained.
There is something she doesn't know…
On her last day in the school, everyone watches and gathers around her, crying and bidding her farewell. She looks around, hoping that maybe he will notice her even in this last minute. But he is nowhere to be found. She sighs sadly, her heart broken once again.
She can have anybody she wants.
But she is invisible to the one person she likes…
She exits the school, everyone watching from the gates. She stands before her car and looks up at the sky painfully. How she will miss this school… how she will miss him…
She smacks her head inwardly when a thought strikes her mind… she shakes her head with a small, sad smile. She didn't even get to tell him.
Just as she enters the car, she glances to the side of the street where she sees…
…him and his girlfriend holding hands. Her heart sinks and her face turns blank, as she tries to hide what she feels. They are watching her as she stops halfway inside. She stares at them and turns to see the tear-stained cheeks of the girlfriend. Then she looks straight into his eyes. She is stunned to see that they are raging with so many confusing emotions. But she doesn't get to decipher what they mean.
She is just so stunned at the way he is looking at her.
The way his mouth is set in a thin, grim line.
The way his eyes pierced into hers.
The way pain is etched upon his face.
They stand there, staring at each other, tension in the atmosphere. 'How did this happen?', she thinks, as she feels the tension. They haven't even interacted with one another ever before but why does it feel like something is not right amongst the three of them?
"Ma'am…" She hears the voice of the driver. She snaps out of their gaze and turns to the driver with a small, unsure smile.
Then with one last look towards the couple, she enters the car.
What happened out there? She is wondering. Then she feels the pang of jealousy as she recalls how they held each others' hands at that time. She shakes her head and sighs.
She smiles bitterly. "I guess he never really noticed me…"
But….
…there is something she doesn't know.
"Something She Doesn't Know"

A short sequel is coming up, told in the boy's point of view: "Something He Doesn't Know". If I receive enough reviews who encourage it, I might make a chaptered story, which tells what happens after. :)
