Epilogue

Looking out across the Neox galaxy, Mark was holding her in a loving embrace, with a feeling that this love would never end. He kissed the top of her head while he was reflecting on the past few months. He never imagined love after Roxy, yet here he sat with the most beautiful creature in the world. He wondered if Jonathan questioned where he was… While Mark was in though, his lover looked up and held her glance at his face. She could scarcely believe that she had actually fallen in love with a mortal. More then that, she could not believe what she was forced to do.

One Month Later

Every television in the United States was turned to CNN, with viewers sitting in their homes or in a café, mouths open and gaping. Only one in history had the White House ever burned, but this time was different. Everyone knew the country was in war, but with whom was left to debate. Many believed we had started nuclear war with Iran. A few believed it was the aliens finally coming to claim the planet as their own. At the same time, people were crying in the streets, praying that this as indeed the forthcoming of the lord. It took the presidents speech a few minuets later to put into perspective exactly what was happening. All eyes were locked on the presidents as he began, “ My fellow Americans, we are in fact at war. As I speak, the icon of the presidency and of our countries government is burning. So is the ignition sequence on every nuclear warhead this country currently has. I can’t tell you whom we are at war with. Just know it is a force greater then anything this country has ever seen. I will keep this country safe. I will defend us to the end. God bless…” He was cut off. As it so happened, every light in the country flashed off for a single moment. In that moment, everyone held their breath. When the lights came back on, the president was gone. Secret service agents rushed on stage, but it was without merit.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jonathan received the call at the same time as Mark. They were simply told to do whatever possible to find the president. No one knew of the secret that they both held. Yet, they both knew exactly what had to be done. They had known for 10 long years that this day might come. When they both arrived at their meeting spot, they caught one another’s eye, but there was little to say. Jonathan was the first to speak up, saying, “ So, how do we get back to the Observation room?” Mark broke the eye contact that he was so frequently known and feared for as he said, “There is only one way. It has been a long time since the trials and I had to keep contact with her.” Jonathan nodded as if he understood, yet he was clueless as to what Mark meant. With that, he pulled a small, square device from his pocket and pushed the button in the center. With a blast of air, the two men were both shot through the air, faster then the human eye could catch. Jonathan was looking around blindly, trying to get a grasp of what just happened to him. One second his feet were on the ground and the next his head was spinning, as was the world around him. Mark just stood, emotionless, waiting for the sensation to pass. He had gone countless times since he first used the device 10 years ago. When the sensation passed, they were both standing again, but to call it on solid ground was a stretch. They were standing on a black stretch of something resembling foam. The sky was a deep lavender color and the features of the landscape included the single path and dirt. The path seemed to go on forever and in the distance, a small shack was centrally located. The two began to walk, silently, for neither has anything to say. Jonathan cast a glance toward Mark, while questioning what he had meant by going back and seeing her. Had he really fallen for an untouchable? Him, a mortal?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------He fired the shot. The beam hit her square in the chest. She fell, wordlessly, to the ground. A voice cried out while another said, “Damn you! You dumb bastard! Do you know the repercussions of what you just did? You have just ignited a war hat you can’t win. You have just begun the end of your known life.” All that was to be said was, “The bitch is dead. That filthy lying scum is dead.”
