I am a leaf

Resting peacefully

On top of the world

Looking down upon

Everyone else

Being attached

To the hip

Of something bigger

Than myself

My colors change

As seasons pass

As the sun and the moon

Take turns

Smiling down at me

Until one day

I am thrown away

No longer needed

By anyone

I spiral downward

Plummeting to the ground

People finding

It pointless

To save me

And in the end

It’s sort of graceful

The way my body

Flutters

Before it finally

Hits the ground

And there I sit

Watching the clouds

Shift

One last time

Before I shrivel up

And am piled

In a sea

Of death

That does not end

In death

But links me

Forever

To my home.
