Slang you must know
FP- Fiction Press
FF- FanFiction
TOS- Terms of Service
POV- Point of View
OC- Original Characters (characters you made up)
OOC- Out of Character (characters not acting like themselves)
PP- Profile Picture.
PM- Private Message
WIP- Work In Progress
A/N- Author's Note. Another never ever thing: don't put an Author’s Note in the middle of the story. The best place to put an author’s note is at the end or the beginning of a story.
MS/GS- Mary Sue/ Gary Sue- The perfect character. They are thin, beautiful and better than perfect. Both Mary and Gary Sues have dangerous habits that can be life threatening such as cutting themselves or suffering from anorexia. An important part of Mary and Gary Sues is their tragic past. Mary and Gary Sues usually die in the end. No, they do not have to be named Mary or Gary to be a Mary or Gary Sue. WARNING: Mary and Gary Sues can be very annoying to readers unless you do them perfectly.
Chars- Characters.
Shippers- Relation shipper. For example, if I want Mary and Gary together I write that it’s a Mary/Gary shipper.
Slash- M/M or F/F- male/ male or female/female relationships also known as shounen-ai or yaoi (M/M) and shoujo-ai, femmeslash or yuri (F/F). Never say the word “Gay” on FictionPress or you will be shot down by reviewers and your reputation will be blown to smithereens!
Het- het- M/F- Male/ Female relationships. Opposite of Slash.
/-this is a slash. It just separates names you support like for example: Mary/Gary. It does not refer to slashfiction.
Fic- Is a story on FictionPress or FanFiction.
Drabble- Ficlet- Shortfic- Flashfic- A story that is exactly 100 words long.
Oneshot- A story that's one chapter long.
Vignette- Short story, sometimes done in series.
Crossover- Having characters from one series visit characters from another series.
Last Battle- Can only be used for some series that have “the bad guy” and “the one to stop him”, like Harry Potter and Voldemort.
Disclaimer- A note at the top of a story saying you don’t own the characters.
Noob/Newbie- Someone new to the site.
Beta- Someone who edits your story.
Fluff- EVERYBODY loves fluff. It's stupid, pointless, and plotless. Everybody loves it. A fluff/humor fic is deadly good if the author knows what they're doing. Put in a plot and BAM you have a really good story.
Spam- Well, actually, it's Spiced Ham. It was a food used a long time ago, and I'm pretty sure it tasted awful. Now, however, it a CRAZILY-USED term to describe when someone posts something stupid, like spamspamspamspam over and over.
Flames- very negative reviews or PMs. For example This story is the most f’n terrible thing ever written u r the most f’n terrible writer on FictionPress! F you! It is very easy to get caught up in a flame war but don’t let it happen! If you do anyways and ignore my wise advice the best thing to do is open a new account and start over. There are some people who go on writing websites just to flame people’s stories, for example, Flame Rising. Flame Rising is everywhere and he flames everything! If you block him he has OVER SEVEN other accounts to flame you with! The best way to deal with a flame is to ignore it.
ConCrit- Constructive Criticism
R&R- Read & Review
Revised- An edited version of an old story
Repost- when someone deletes then reposts the same story
Do’s and Don’ts of FictionPress
-Accept anonymous reviews
-Never say “Gay” on FictionPress
-Always disclaim your story (only if you use stuff you did not create yourself like Zellers)
-Never put an author’s note in the middle of a story
-Always edit your story before you publish it (some people will tear you apart for little mistakes)
-Don’t get caught up in a flame war, people can make sure that no one will ever read your stories!
How To Be A Great Reveiwer
-One reveiw with constructive critism is worth 10 times as much as "update soon"
-Aways leave a signed reveiw as often as possible, it gives the author a chance to reply
Other Writing Websites
FanFiction- EXACTLY like FictionPress but you write stories about books, movies, comics and other stuff.
Live Journal- A website often used to post stories.
Deviant Art- Used for both writing and character sketches.
The FictionPress Review- Used to find great FictionPress stories.
