AN: This story is a partnered one with one other person on this site. They are vtgib. We will all be doing our own separate characters but the story will remain the same. It was created by us two.

My old school only had grades K-8, so as a result I'm going to a new school. Obviously, I'm a freshman in high school. Of course, a few of my old classmates are going to this school, but at least it's not a lot. I did not like my junior high class.

I had my aunt and uncle drove me to school early. Well, 45 minutes early. It's not that I don't like the vehicle they drive, but they have early jobs and the comments some people make are annoying.

Once I was inside, I waited for the halls to open then went straight to the front office. After I got my schedule I looked at the school map and went to my first period classroom to wait for school to start. I pulled out the book I was currently reading.

Only two other people came into the room before the five minute bell for class rang. We basically ignored each other. Then, within 2 minutes of class starting, everyone came in and sat down, all chattering away at how wonderful their summers were and how much they missed each other; they were probably all from the same grade school. I was glad I wasn't part of all that yet.

The teacher walked in right before the 1 minute bell rang and sat down at his desk. During class, he talked about the rules and gave us a syllabus for our parents - or in my case guardians. See, my parents handed over legal guardianship to my aunt and uncle because they wanted to continue with their jobs unhindered. Honestly, I'm glad they did that. I'm afraid of falling, insects - though not all of them, I just get the urge to kill the ones I hate when I see them - and other weird things. Seriously, I'd hate to live with them. They travel to foreign countries, explore, and do other things.

The bell finally rang and I went to my next class where basically the same thing basically happened. The first day of school was both boring and unnecessary. I need something interesting to happen.

My next class at least had an interesting teacher. He did stuff, unlike the other people. After we introduced ourselves and were told what we'd be going over this year, we played a game. This game is called Mafia. I got to be the doctor. The sad part is that I was killed off in the third round.

My last class could probably be described as the most boring of this semester's four classes. The teacher was slow and I already know more than half the subject material. Some kid interrupted my thoughts.

"What grade are you in?" she asked.

"I'm a freshman." Evidently I looked older than my 13 years. I had started school at a young age.

"Cool. You wanna be friends?"

"Sure." Whatever. I don't have anything better to do.

She pulled out her cell phone. "Could you put in your name and phone number?" She said, handing me her phone. "But be quick about it. I don't want the teacher to see." She put her phone on her desk, it had two bars of battery left.

As I went to pick it up, I was shocked by some static electricity. I picked up the phone and looked at it, but it was already out of batteries. "It died." I stated and gave it back to her.

"Oh, well, that's odd. Just write it down on a piece of paper."

"Sure." I wrote down my name and number in the crappy print that was only mine. The bell rang.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Sarah. Bye!" She ran out of the room in a storm.

I grabbed my bag and started walking home. My aunt and uncle would be working ‘till five everyday, so I'd be walking home after school. After about 45 minutes of walking, I turned onto our street, went up to our house, and went inside, the Arizona sun and air heating my back and warming up our slightly cooler house.

I looked at the clock, it read 12:54. I was waiting for the mail, it would come at 1:30 and I needed to get my science magazine, read it, and hide or dispose of it before my aunt and uncle got home.

I went to the fridge and got out the turkey sandwich I had made that morning for my lunch. I filled a glass with water from the filter, grabbed a few baby carrots, washed them, and sat down to eat.

By the time I was done eating, I had finished my book and set it down. It was about 1:20. Hopefully the mail came early today. I got up, put my dishes in the sink, and went outside just in time to see the mailman finishing with our neighbors down the street. I opened the box and took out the mail. On the top was my magazine.

I went inside and shut the door behind me. I set everything on the table to be sorted later and went up to my room. I skimmed through the magazine. There was only one interesting article on how they could actually make LED's black so that you can see the pictures better in movies. I thought of one movie in particular that needed that: Batman Begins.

I hid the magazine under my bed, planning on looking through it more vigorously later. I went downstairs and started sorting the mail. There were many piles. Some for bills, some for personal mail, and others still for my guardians’ antique business. Near the middle of the stack I found a letter addressed to me and another one addressed to my aunt and uncle from the same address.

I picked up the letter addressed to me and went up to my room. I sat down on the edge of my bed and did my best to open the letter. Of course I only ended up ripping the envelope to pieces, but at least I was able to get the letter out intact. Turns out, there was more than one letter.

I read the first of the two letters.

Dear Sarah,

You have been invited to attend the National School for Special and Advanced Children. This school is designed for students with special abilities. Here you will attend regular high school classes, and depending on the strength of your abilities, advanced curriculum classes which can delve into almost any and every subject imaginable.

We have been privileged to find out that you have a special ability before our yearly classes have started. Enclosed is a personal letter written by one of our staff that has observed you and found your ability to be advantageous to our school. You are welcome to accept or deny our invitation, but before you make any decisions please read the other letter provided.

I put the first letter down.

Well, this was both interesting and unexpected. I picked up the other letter, and decided that depending on what it said I would choose whether I would go to this school or not. On to the next one.

Dear Sarah,

As stated in your previous letter I have been observing you. I would like to inform you that you have - what some people call - super powers. This is not the term we usually use. If you have read the acceptance letter we use the term "special abilities".

While I have been observing you I found a lot of evidence pertaining to your special abilities although it has been written off as coincidence before now. Today while you were in school you showed that you did have special abilities. You can control electricity. Although at the moment you have no conscious control over this power.

I put down the letter and fell onto my back. It seemed that this would be much more interesting than I had originally thought. Well, I had decided. I would be going to this school. This was a guarantee that I would do something interesting, but not life threatening at the same time.

I reread the second letter. If what he said was true, were they going to teach me to control my power? I hoped so.

I took a quick nap after setting my aunt and uncle’s letter on the table; I was still tired from my late night readings. When I woke up my uncle was downstairs cooking one of the recipes my dad had given him. Tonight it was cabbage rolls. The recipe came from somewhere in Scandinavia.

My aunt was sitting at the table reading what looked like an almost duplicate letter of what I’d received. I looked at the clock, it read 5:54. I went to the cupboard and got out three sets of dishes.

“Honey, get out another set, will you? We have a guest coming for dinner. He’ll be here in about five minutes.” My aunt spoke calmly, odd for someone who’s usually panicking at the thought of a guest in the house.

“Huh? Who is it?” I asked. Of course it was going to be the school’s representative, but you never know.

She looked up as I put the dishes on the table. “An old friend of mine. He works as a school rep and he’s coming over to see if you’d like to go to his school. He’d called while you were sleeping and asked if we’d gotten your acceptance letter yet. He’s coming over to try and convince you to go.”

“Oh. Do you want me to go?” I asked. Well, I can say that I expected their answer, but that my mind was made up even if they were vehemently against me going.

“No, honey! We love you and don’t want you to go, but it’s up to you.” She was interrupted when the doorbell rang.

My uncle went over to the door. “Paul! Nice to see you again, it’s been too long since the last Antique Roadshow.”

I sighed, that’s how they knew him. I should’ve known. That’s how they meet everybody. They go on a two week vacation every year to check out the nearest Antique Roadshow. I’m even 53.7 sure they’ve met Robin Williams there, or they at least they claim they saw someone with his same body type.

As he came in he greeted my aunt. “Mary, nice to see you again.” He sniffed. “Are you inviting me to supper?”

“Yep.” With that we sate down and ate in silence.

After supper Paul told me about his school and all the interesting classes and extra-curricular activities they had there. At first I pretended that I wasn’t interested, but when he moved to leave I called to him.

“How long do I have to pack?”

He looked at me questionably. I repeated myself slowly. “How long do I have to pack?”

“You’re gonna come?”

“Of course. I wanna learn to use all my abilities to their fullest potential.”

“You have till tomorrow at six. I’ll come pick you up and hopefully explain more to you about our school on the ride over.”

AN: Okay, so this is sorta the prologue. If you have any questions that pertain to anything in the story that you would like me to explain to you, I will answer them. Just review and ask there. Most of you guys who read this probably have absolutely no idea what in the world the game Mafia is. I will give you the rules and stuff if you want to know how to play.

This chapter took about a month to work on due to the collective laziness of me and my fellow authors. We will update slowly, but surely.

My partners in this story should have their first chapters, or prologues, posted up soon. This story also may take very long to upload as when it comes to certain parts we authors will have to show each other our work so we can coordinate different parts. E.g.: When our characters are going to talk to each other.

If you know me from my Ghost Hunt fanfiction on (I'm under the same penname) thanks for reading this.
