Friday Morn’

the horizon burns a brilliant orange
early on this Friday morn’
while sleepless students, study away
or procrastinate a little more.

the scattered clouds of cirrus build
reflect the suns bright shades,
a preview of today’s beauty?
or a teaser for another day?

a breeze begins to wake the trees,
like nature’s alarm clock,
and soon they stretch and say hello
to all who share their lot.

the birds, awake at the first light,
start warming up, for soon
their songs will fill the light, crisp air
like the grass is glazed with morning dew.

the only group who’s never there
on time for the roll call,
are the renegades of mother earth,
us humans, one and all.
