The Tale of the Blue Vampire
--Year-1794--
There was a flash of white light. When the light faded there was a girl. Her eyes were closed and head was down. It seemed as if she had lost something extremely dear to her. She collapsed to her knees and started to tremble. Her long, platinum blonde hair fell over her shoulders creating a curtain which seemed to cut the girl off from the rest of the world. A single tear slowly slid down her cheek and splashed on the cold, hard earth she was on.
‘No. Th-this can’t be happening. Why did they go! Why did they have to die! They all died!’ her thoughts echoed in her mind. She opened her eyes and looked at her hands.
“It is gone.” She whispered.
She looked towards the sky only to come face to face with the start of a rainstorm. She got up quickly and ran. Her steps were light as a feather, even though she was running as fast as she could. The girl was dressed in a white night gown that hung on her body. She had a leather jacket over her gown which fell at her ankles. Around her waist was a thick belt with a small dagger. Engraved on the dagger’s handle was the name ‘Corrine Nanashi’, the girl’s name.
-----
She found shelter in an old couple’s home. Corrine looked around the room she was allowed to stay in that night. She looked in the small mirror above the dresser only to be rewarded with the reflection of the bed and nightstand behind her. She gasped and then remembered the events that had taken place that night.
“How could I have forgotten something like this so easily?” she asked herself.
Corrine walked over to the balcony and leaned on the rail. Staring at the moon through the rain, her terrible memory of that night flashed in her mind.
----Flashback----
Corrine huddled in a corner, a shadow was over her. A hand shot out of the shadow, grabbing the girl and pulling her up to head level.
“Thought you could get away from me?” a menacing voice said. Then, before the small girl could react, the being sunk its long fangs into her neck. Corrine squeaked when she realized what was happening to her. Then, when the figure was done it threw the girl to the ground. Wiping some blood from its lips, some droplets landing on Corrine, the figure turned and walked out.
“Don’t worry child, I shall be back.”
“What are you going to do?” Corrine asked, timidly.
“Heh, heh, heh… I’m just going to pay your family a visit… dear daughter.”
The newly turned vampire whimpered.
“No!” Corrine screamed, “Get out of there! NO! Don’t you dare touch them!”
As she started to get up, a hand reached out behind her and pulled her back into their strong arms. Corrine could tell that the person holding her was not only strong, but also a woman. The woman used one arm to hold Corrine tight to her body and the other to clamp the vampire’s mouth shut. She leaned down and started to whisper in her ear.
“Do not speak,” her voice was in a low hiss, “unless you have a death wish, I suggest that you leave at once, lest you want to be seen!”
“No,” her voice muffled behind the woman’s hand, “I will not leave them! They are my clan! My people! My Family!”
The woman looked down at her and saw that Corrine would not be budged from her spot.
“Fine. You can stay. But you must promise me that you will not utter a sound and will not do anything that will draw attention to you.”
The girl nodded and seemed to be much more mature then her mere age of thirteen, almost fourteen. The two looked out at the group of people in the center of the town. A red haired woman kneeled, head down, restrained with ropes and chains. Corrine lurched forward to stop as an evil looking man shoved the red-head down.
“Corrine, I am very serious,” the woman hissed in her ear, “If given the chance this man will kill you in a heartbeat… and that is only if you are lucky.”
“There’s nothing lucky about being killed-”
“No,” she shook her head gravely, “he can do things to you that you cannot even begin to imagine.”
The woman loosened her grip she whispered one more thing in her ear.
“Corrine, you are the only one who can destroy the Him; the only one who can save our clan from dying out completely. You must destroy Lord Souchii. Corrine…I love you and always will, for you are my one and only little sister, forever until the end of time. I will see you again, if not in person then in Heaven.”
She let go of Corrine. The young girl immediately turned around after being released and expected to see her older sister, but when she turned around she saw nothing. When she turned back to the clearing in front of her she saw her sister next to her mother. Her sister nodded and she could have sworn that she had nodded at her. Then she heard the dreaded noise. Corrine heard the slice of the executioner’s sword through her family’s flesh and the crunch as it passed through the bone.
“No…” she whispered. Corrine looked at the person who had done the terrible deed and saw her eyes staring back at her. ‘Father? H-How could you!’ she thought. Her father brought the blade up and licked the blood. He smirked and gave an order to his guards. Corrine ran as she saw her father look directly at her and as she received the death order that her father had sent her. She gripped a small green gem as she ran and prayed. She prayed that she could somehow get far away from where she was and suddenly, she disappeared.
----End Flashback----
Corrine grabbed her head and shook it as if to throw the horrible memory out.
“Why? Why me?!” she screamed into the night, “As if the death of my mother and sister weren’t enough! Why did you let this happen to me? Why did you make me like this?!”
She fell to her knees, her arms falling, limp at her sides.
“…I’m a vampire, part of the undead.”
She closed her eyes. When she opened them they were glowing blood red. She fell on all fours, panting. ‘What’s happening to me?’ her thoughts sounded different and far away. A sharp pain, like a bolt of lightning, went searing through her body. She could feel her own blood changing, becoming that of a cold blooded murderer. She dug her nails into the hard wood of the balcony floor. She could feel the vampire part of her soul taking control of her body and shoving her human part aside. Her human side let a tear escape from the now fading red glow of her eyes.
When the vampire blood had taken full control of her mind and body, she rose to her feet. The vampire looked around, wondering how she could get human blood fastest. Her hair was now a deep chocolate color, which looked even darker against the pale skin tone she had developed and her eyes were as bright a crimson as her lips. Breathing heavily through her mouth she sounded like the monster that she was. She cracked the knuckles on her right hand and examined her newly developed claws.
The newly initiated vampire sniffed the air for the scent of blood and the life forms that contained it. It didn’t take her long to find out that her neighbor was male, asleep, and full of blood. She licked her crimson lips; ran her tongue over her pearly white fangs. Corrine snuck out of her room and into the room next door. The obese son of the old couple lay on the bed. He had on the usual white and red striped nightgown and nightcap that people wore. The vampire knelt down besides him, sinking her teeth into his fat neck. With long, lady-like gulps she drank. She drank and drank and drank until the human went limp and died.
With one final slurp the vampire stood up and walked back to her room. She stood on the balcony underneath a crescent moon. The stars flickered and accented the blood dripping from her mouth. The vampire licked the metallic liquid with an evil grin. ‘Humans are so weak and pathetic,’ she thought.
The vampire suddenly gagged as her human side began to regain enough strength to fight for her body again. Their body pulsed as their hair flickered between dark brown and white blonde. Finally the vampire within gave up and retreated to the darkness of their mind. Corrine was back. Her hair waved in the breeze before settling to rest in the middle of her back. Her electric blue eyes twinkled with her tears.
The human side was in control now, but Corrine knew that it was only a matter of time until her inner demon resurfaced again and would undoubtedly replenish the blood lust she would have acquired. Corrine cocooned herself in her bed sheets and cried. ‘Mother! Sister! Please forgive me for the sin I have committed! I was not strong enough to fight it. But please know that it will NEVER happen again. I will find the cure.’ That was her last thought before she was lulled to sleep by her own sobs.
-----
‘I have to get out of here!’ Corrine thought as she franticly gathered what little possessions she had once she had woken up. Quietly she walked down the stairs, put some gold coins on top of a table where the couple was sure to find it and went outside only to be hit with the crisp, early morning air.
As soon as Corrine couldn’t see the house any more, she broke off into a sprint. She wanted to get away from the place as fast as she could. She ran and ran. She ran until her throat stung when she breathed. Her running slowed and her moves were jagged. She tripped over a root and fell face first into a mud puddle.
“Itai (ouch),” she muttered, “Itai!”
“Do you need some help miss?” a boy’s voice rang out.
Corrine saw a hand being held out for her. She grunted and clasped the hand with her own. Together they brought Corrine to her feet. She winced when she put pressure on her left leg.
“Ah,” she bent down and grabbed her leg. She almost toppled back over but the boy quickly caught her, “Heh, thank you. You are very kind.”
“No problem,” he looked down at the girl in his arms, “now, do you think you can walk?”
Corrine nodded, but when she tried to stand she cried out in pain. The boy picked her up placing one arm behind her back and the other under her legs, carrying her bridal style. He started to walk and he told her all about himself and his travels. He told her that his name was Shea Luis and he was a cat demon. He had been in exile from his clan because of something his parents had done. Shea appeared to be a few years older then Corrine. He looked sixteen but he was really six-hundred-seven. He explained that his clan aged at a rate of one-tenth of humans. This meant that for every ten years that passed, he only aged one. It started to rain again and the two new friends ran for cover.
