Chapter 1: A Forsaken Dreamer
“Look Adora, isn’t it wonderful?” a woman in a white, simple gown smiles warmly, matching the pure radiance of the illuminating sun. Her chestnut gaze was locked onto a small child, no more than two in her delicate arms.
They were deep within the woods out side their small cottage that was surrounded by marvelous oak trees along with a vast kinds of lilies the woman loved so dearly, the sound of crashing waves in the distance for the ocean was only a few feet away.
‘No..its not..infact, it’s a horrible place.’ My voice was low, almost sorrowful. My eyes stared blankly, watching the scene play out.
‘It brings back..so many unspeakable memories..’
“We’re lucky to have found this home, you, I and your father.“ The women said thoughtfully with a jaded smile, glancing away from the child from time to time.
‘Father doesn’t exist..’ my thoughts grew louder with every word that came from her smiling face. It pained me, knowing it was a shattered smile, just another empty lie.
“You know..your eyes are just as beautiful as those lush pine trees, along with the vines on them flowers, you see darling? You have your fathers eyes, you know that?” she laughed at this but it wasn’t a pleased laughter. No, it was just hallow, just like the wind, so far and distant.
‘ please..stop..’
The stare I held harden, wishing to rewind this scene before it played onward.
“Your father..is such a good man..I love him so much..” Her voice was becoming hoarse, as though trying to hold back the tears that so badly wanted to spill out before the child in her arms.
‘Mother..please don’t..’
“I wished he never left..us..”Her eyes lowered, her grip on the child loosens some with each word she spoke.
’ No..don’t say another word..!’
“ I’m..so sorry..Adora..”
‘Mother!’
“I’m afarid..I’ll be joining him soon.” Her soft voice was now fading into the outer skirts of the woods, floating into the blackness of the sky were the glorious stars laid.
‘Don’t leave me!’
I try to move my body but it was paralyzed from fear and agony.
‘I’m going to loss her …’ tears trickle down my cheeks while she backed away from the child who seemed dazed and confused.
“good bye, my sweet Adora..please..don’t try to follow me.”
The woman started to stroll away, heading far, far away from this world. The time around me was ticking like a bomb. it was replaying again, her smile, the sad laughter, the goodbye, and now here the woman was. walking into her grave.
Without thinking, I rush to her form, wishing to stop her from her fate.
“Mother! Mother!!” I knew she wouldn’t listen, nor stop her walk to death’s gates, but I felt I could prevent it this time. If I could make her hear me out, or just halt for a second, she’ll comeback to me.
“Mother! Don’t go! please..I don’t want to be left alone…” Deafening roars from the ocean clash against the walls of the rocks below, along with the smell of saltiness hung low in the air. The woman stood there, looking down upon the famished waves that would rip her body to bits if she touched them.
“Mommy!” She glanced upward, then tilted it to the side to look fully at me. I try to speak but my breath was caught in my throat, to stunned she turned to me. Her lips part as to speak but do nothing would come out. Her eyes held happiness that I never seen since I was born. The lights around me spun about, causing the scene to begin to become bright, almost blinding me like the sun does when you look straight at it.
“ I’m sorry Adora..that I could never love you like a real mother could.” a tear slid down her angelic face before she fell forward, her golden brown locks fell around her, descending down to the deeps of the ocean were the waves devoured her body.
“Mother!!!!!!!!!!!”
When they found me in the house by myself, they seemed to know exactly that their daughter died and she had left me behind. Most of the family members were harsh to me at the funeral, giving me glares and whispering insults about my eyes. Why did they do this you ask? Well..its because I’m a child of a witch.
No, it was not my mother who was, but my father. It was against the rules for a mortal to love that of a being who possessed supernatural powers, but some how they slipped through the rules and got married.
So here I was, a girl no more of 17, living in a village that would never accept me for who I was. Versus children had tried to befriend me, but distrusting parents prove other wise. Thus, causing a tortured and painful childhood. I still remembered their taunting laughter displayed in front of me as the older children burned my dolls to ash, claiming a demon such as my self, need neither fun nor happiness.
What were so horrible about my eyes you may wonder? Well yes they’re green, which seem normal enough, but not the fact they were an uncanny yellowish green. Like cat eyes only more intense. It marks the birthright that dwells within me, my father’s blood.
So far, I’ve been able to lift things as well as maybe set a few things on fire with my mind. That’s just one of my gifts though, there’s something else the villagers are more afraid than anything that I posses right now. My father was known not only to move or control things with his mind, but he was the son of that of a shape shifter and a witch. This means I too had inherited the shape shifter blood, which could be lethal for its potential unstable meant.
The villagers though do not fear its unstable meant but the fact I might one day harness the power within me, and would destroy their beloved land. I had no thoughts of doing so, or care of killing them. In fact, I could give a damn about their land or lives. My heart yearned to leave else were and explore the unknown world.
Yet, that may never happen for the people plan to lock my life so to never step foot away from their city, for I am their only source that could give them both rain and good crops. The witch blood within me is based of the four natural elements, causing me the admittedly place to run to when the farms plants would not grow.
Sighing in default, I glance from my bed to the window again, seeing the sun was now peeking from the hilltops of my home. Even in the darkest hours, I still find contentment with both the raise of the sun and moon. The sun gave me strength for the day to come, while the moon confronted me during the long nights. This only comes for I’m closer to the earth and atmosphere itself unlike the others.
Pulling away from the sheets, I hum a soft tune thoughtlessly. It was in my nature to hum or sing before the day beginning, glad to have another day of freedom, another day in my own bed as well.
In the distance, I could hear the slight clatter of neighborhood children waking as well, calling out good mornings along with some groans from early chores they had to attend.
Leaving the window to the shower, I did all the basics of human lifestyle. By the time I bathed and brushed my golden brown locks, I pulled out some cloths that I had earlier decided to wear. The dress I chose was rather decent than most my family could afford but it was a special one since they had worked so hard to buy it for my birthday.
Placing a smile upon my lips, I grab my purse before walking out of my room. My grandfather had already left the house for the morning work so I had quietly walked to my grandmother’s room and placed a light kiss on her forehead before whispering a goodbye before strolling of from the home in search of work.
A/N:This is stranger than most stories I have written so far but unlike the others..I decide to make this one unique.
