Chapter 10

My first period class was a living hell! Brendan left after he dropped me off at the door, saying he had to go talk to Jayson or something. I nodded, not wanting him to go, but not wanting him to know that either. I turned and made my way into the class room, sitting down in one of the middle rows of desks.

Class started a few minutes later, and guess who was in the class. Come on I dare ya! Yeah, Sandra and her little mini-me's. Or is it mini-hers?

They sat down, two rows behind me, and every time the teacher's back was turned I'd find a ball of paper hitting my head. By the end of class there was a pile of paper balls behind my chair.

As soon as the bell rang I was up, grabbing my bag as I headed for the door. Brendan met me outside the classroom, sending Sandra a glare as she passed.

“Hey, how're you doing?” He asked as he started down the hall.

“Uh...” I answered, not wanting to lie to him.

“What's you're next class?” He asked, guessing my answer to the first.

“English, with Leastro,” I replied, smiling up at him.

“I had him! Sit on the far left side of the classroom, he calls on the people on the right for some reason,” Brendan advised.

“Weird,” I said in reply, wrinkling my nose.

“Jen!” I looked up, thinking I'd find Brendan but finding Jayson running toward me instead. I rolled my eyes and adjusted my bag on my shoulder.

“Hi, and it's Jennifer,” I said, scanning the hallway for Brendan. The bell had rang about five minutes before, signaling the end of school. “Have you seen Brendan?”

“Na, you want a ride home?” Jayson asked.

“No thanks,” I answered, spotting Brendan coming out of a classroom. I sped up a little bit to get away from Jayson. “Hi!” I said brightly, coming up next to Brendan.

“Hey!” Brendan answered, smiling at me. “How've you been since lunch?” Three hours earlier I had explained to him what had happened in first period. “No more Sandra incidents?”

“Nope,” I answered as we started toward the nearest exit door.

“That's strange,” Brendan commented.

“Huh?”

“She usually stalks the people she dislikes till they move away,” Brendan explained, holding the door for me. “Sandra doesn't like to lose. You drive,” Brendan said as he handed over the keys to his mustang as we walked across the parking lot.

“Really?” I questioned, looking up at him.

“Yeah,” Brendan answered, glancing down at me.

“Why?” I asked, knowing there was probably a reason.

“Sandra painted my car pink,” Brendan replied, his voice cracking on the word pink as he pointed toward his, now Barbie pink, mustang.

“Yeah, okay,” I answered, walking around to the drives side of the car.

“We stopping somewhere on the way home to buy more car paint,” Brendan said, sitting down in the passenger seat.

“Okay, I'll need directions,” I spoke as I started the car.

“Go ahead and pull forward when ever you want,” Brendan commented as Sandra passed in front of the car. I reached over and slapped his arm softly.

“Brendan, she might be evil and well... dumb, but you can't just run her over!” I scolded, smiling.

“Yeah, I know,” Brendan said, “My car is pink. That's why you're going to run her over.” It sounded like he was trying to persuade me to really run her over.

“Okay, fine,” I said as I hit the gas a little.

“Jen! Not really!” Brendan laughed as he saw Sandra jump and me smirk with pleasure. As soon as Sandra was out of the way, I pulled out of the parking spot.

“Okay, so where do I go from here?” I asked before pulling out of the parking lot.

“Take a left,” Brendan directed.

Five minutes later we pulled into a parking lot of some car store. Brendan got out of the car and all but ran into the store. I followed close behind, laughing as I watched him.

“Jen, hurry up! I need a second opinion!” I rolled my eyes and started across the store to where Brendan stood.

“What do you need?” I questioned, rolling my eyes.

“Okay which color do you like better?” Brendan asked as he held up to paint samples that looked exactly the same to me.

“What's the difference?” I spoke, one hand on my hip.

“There is a big difference!” I raised an eyebrow at him

“Yeah, one of them is like one-one thousandth of as shade lighter, right?” I said sarcastically. “Brendan, they are both dark blue!” Brendan stared at me for a second before turning back toward the rack of paint colors.

“I see you're looking for a color to paint you're sister's car,” A salesman said, coming up behind us. Brendan turned around to face me, looking like he was about to cry.

“Uh, it's not my car,” I replied.

“Oh, well then... uh... what color are you looking for?” the salesman asked .

“Which one looks better?” Brendan held up the two colors.
