He’d been watching her for a few weeks. Okay, actually more like a few months. There was a reason for his staring though. She was beautiful. The most beautiful thing he had ever seen, actually. Which was hard to believe, because he was surrounded by beautiful people twenty-four seven. But there was just something special about her. Maybe it was her laugh or the way she bit her lip when she was thinking. She had the most captivating green eyes he had every seen. When she looked at him, he felt she was looking into his soul – not that she was really looking at him. He knew better then that; she couldn’t see him, just like the rest of the world couldn’t see him. He was overlooked, invisible, and substantially unimportant to these people.

There were no real ways he could articulate his feelings for her. There were only the sweaty palms and beating heart he developed when around her.

How did I fall in love with someone that doesn’t see me, that doesn’t even know that I exist – existed, he firmly corrected his wondering mind. The beating, nervous heart he had was incredibly stupid. Why be nervous around someone who doesn’t know you’re there? He thought. One word could answer this question. Love. How could such a small word hold so many things? Love brought joy, pain, excitement, a future. Even though he wanted all of those things, he knew he couldn’t have them. His kind were not allowed to fall in love. Actually, they thought they couldn’t fall in love. He could love, yes. But it was thought that he wasn’t able to fall in love. Such a thing was for humans alone. Once you died, the urge to fall in love died along with your body. People thought heaven was paradise, but in reality it was pure torture without love. And he was the first to still feel the need to love, even after death. Angels had no need to love. And that’s what he was. An angel.
