Scene 10
The Golden Path club
“Excuse me,” says Omoi into the microphone, “I have another announcement to make.”
The club quiets down again.
“Thank you. The real reason I sent those people home is this: there is a large group of demons headed in this direction.”
Many patrons make sounds of alarm and surprise. Several of them stand up and start moving toward the front door, only to have James step through and block them.
Off in Kashoku’s corner of the room…
“Demons! Sounds like fun!” exclaims Kuroichi. He turns to Kashoku, “Please say we’re staying.”
“Sir, I strongly suggest we leave,” says female G.C.
“I agree, sir. We need to go somewhere safe. There are only two of us. I don’t think we can hold off a demon horde on our own,” says male GC worriedly.
“male GC, I am quite confident in both your and female GC’s abilities. Besides, I don’t think the rest of the patrons are simply going to sit around. So, yes nephew, we are staying.” says Kashoku calmly, leaning back in his seat and reaching for his drink. What no one notices is the gun sliding out of his sleeve, to rest in his lap.
“I need to go speak to the bartender,” mutters male GC, and walks off.
Back with Omoi, at the bar…
“Everyone! Please sit down and BE QUIET!” says Omoi, “thank you. Anyone who wishes to leave must use the back door. It opens onto an alleyway. At the back there is a lantern hanging from the wall. Twist the lantern and a passage will open that will take you several blocks away.”
About fifteen patrons get up and exit. The remaining patrons simply continue to look at Omoi.
“Now, I assume that the rest of you are here because you are willing, if not eager, to fight the demons,” Omoi says. Then he looks over at James, “James, will you please go and lock the front door. Oh, and let everyone get their weapons. Then please lock the inner door. Thank you.”
“Are you sure you want to stay?”, Liam quietly asks Hina, “This will probably get quite dangerous.”
“I’ll be fine,” replies Hina grimly, “Besides; I have Kugi to protect me.”
Liam looks up at Kugi, who is also looking quite grim, then looks back at Hina with a (cautious? ‘Yeah, uh-huh’) look on his face.
“Uh-huh,” says Liam.
“Don’t worry,” says Hina quietly, “He’s really quite strong. And anyway, I’ve trained most of my life to fight demons.. I’m pretty good at it too, if I do say so myself.”
“Ok then,” replies Liam, before walking off towards the bar.
‘I’d really like to know more about him,’ thinks Hina before turning to Kugi.
They both cross themselves before murmuring a quiet prayer. something about victory?
Behind the bar…again
Omoi watches curiously as a small vampire walks over to the bar.
“Excuse me,” says the vampire-child loudly.
“Um, how may I help you?” asks Omoi.
“Do you, by any chance, have some silver cutlery?”
“Cutlery? Like forks and stuff?” asks Omoi, “Yeah, we have some, though I don’t know if it’s real silver.”
Omoi reaches under the bar and pulls out two drawers of utensils. The small vampire reaches in and pulls out several knives and forks.
“These will do,” he says, then begins putting most of the forks and knives in his pockets, “But buy some higher quality stuff next time. You never know when you’ll need it.”
The vampire puts several hundred dollar bills on the counter, and then walks away.
“What did he want,” asks Liam as he vaults over the counter.
“Nothing,” replies Omoi, “What do you want?”
“How many demons are coming,” asks Liam, “And how soon will they get here?”
He then lifts his shirt, unclasps his belt, and reaches his arm down his pants.
“Scanners show about eighty… There isn’t time for that!” hisses Omoi.
Liam glares up at Omoi, before pulling his hand back out, now holding a silver gun in it. He drops the gun on the counter, before pulling two silver daggers out from the inside of his pants.
“Oh,” says Omoi, “Wait…Hey! You’re not supposed to have those in here!”
“I don’t go
anywhere, or do anything, without at least one of my weapons nearby,”
says Liam curtly, “Besides, it’s more convenient this way. Now,
what were you saying about the demons?”
“Oh yeah,” says
Omoi before looking back at the small device, “The scanner shows
that there around at least eighty demons coming. They’ll be here in
about ten minutes.”
“Ok,” says Liam, “Hey, everyone’s back in.”
Omoi looks up at the door and sees James following the last patron back from the (armory?). James turns and locks the double-doors, then gives Omoi a thumbs-up. Omoi reaches under the counter and pushes a button, which causes a large metal wall to slam down in front of the doors. More walls can be heard closing over the other entrances.
“That’s handy,” remarks Liam, “But I don’t think it will be of much use.”
“Well, it also shuts off the signals from the emergency systems,” says Omoi, “That way if the sprinklers go off we won’t have the Fire Department rushing over, for example.”
“Ah,” says Liam, “how nice, to be thinking of the humans.”
A loud boom is heard and the club instantly quiets down.
Note 2: I’ve been told that my story might come out better in script format, rather than how it is right now. When you review, could you also tell me your opinion?
