Type: One Shot
“Rin! Wait!” a voice called out. A fair skinned girl stopped in her tracks; tears streaming down the porcelain face from her grey colored eyes. He caught up to her and wrapped his arms around her from behind; reveling in her scent. She smelt like vanilla and strawberries. If only he could taste her…
“Ryuu, let me go,” her wary voice demanded. He felt her warm saline tears hit his hand, and immediately allowed the words to fly from his mouth as his hold tightened.
“No Rin. I’m not going to let you do something stupid,” he whispered; his breath hot against her skin in the midnight rain. His unfair old eyes softened; her black hair was completely wet and he could imagine some strands matted to her face. She was always beautiful, and tonight he was going to show her.
“Ryuu. Please,” Rin’s voice drawled out. His heart felt like it’s been stabbed; hasn’t she noticed he’s been different? For her?
He turned her around and kept his hands steadily on her shoulders. “Rin,” he started; voice demanding for her to look at him. She did, and by gods his breath was taken away. As he had imagined, her hair matted to her face as the tears continued to fall; never faltering her beauty with the strange colored eyes as they remained purely white despite the irises. No amount of tears has ever been able to give her red eye, and it kept her beauty eternal. “I need to tell you something. Very important.” When she didn’t reply, he took that as his chance to say the words that hopefully would mend her broken heart and, in turn, her soul. “I love you Rin.” Her breathing hitched slightly, and he knew it had an effect on her. “I’ve loved you since I first knew you. You were shy, indescribable. In my writings, you noticed there was a girl I emphasized on. Have you not noticed she was the exact duplicate of you? Her grey eyes were to match yours, her midnight black hair to duplicate, and her porcelain skin to show how fair and beautiful you are in my eyes? Damn it, woman, I love you. Listen,” he said, as she started to squirm. “I know what happened with that English boy David, but Rin, I’m not lying. I love you. I. Love. You. You, Rin Aika Tsuki-Chouwa. Not some other girl. I love you,” Ryuu finished; not realizing his own eyes were welling with tears.
“How… did you know…?” Rin murmured. She finally calmed down; it was a good sign to him, but her voice to be so soft in front of him continued to taunt his very soul.
“Rikusa-chan told me you were crying in your room that night, and she deciphered the name David. I put the pieces together,” Ryuu said; letting out an inaudible sigh. “Rin… I have a proposition for you.” He waited for her nod of approval for him to go on. When he received it, he lowered himself so he could look up at her face. “Rin Aika Tsuki-Chouwa… will you go out with me?” Ryuu asked. Not once has he been this brave; but if he’s with her, he’ll risk anything.
Rin’s breath hitched again. What should she say? For once, they were young; only 14. But he’s known her for 5 years… She could say yes. Then again, he knew how affectionate she was. Though he found her to be, daresay, Tsuki - the moon, the rest of their classmates didn’t find that to be true. They taunted her mercilessly and broke her down until she was nothing but a withering flower. If she was to show affection, it’d be where her okaa-san wouldn’t see, which would be school. She couldn’t allow them to bring him down because, truth be told, she loved him too. “Ryuu-kun… Gomen nasai,” she murmured, before running away as fast as she could. The rain melded with her tears as she ran until her legs couldn’t take it.
He simply stood there, watching his love run away. His heart was broken… “Doshite..? Rin, why..?” Though he knew he wasn’t going to get an answer, he still stood there as if waiting for an invisible answer looming over him to reveal itself.
------
Rin slumped against the tree; her sobs died down. “Why..? Why did you tell me that... that I was always your moon? Didn’t you always know that you were my sky..?” she murmured to the air.
“I knew,” Ryuu said; hands stuffed in his pockets. She lifted her head up in shock; there he was, right in front of her and drenched in the rain. “Rin… why?”
Her gaze faltered from his; looking down at the ground, “It’s complicated. I don’t think I would be able to love you back though.” She bit her lip; why did she have to lie to him?
“I see.” She looked up with her mouth nearly ready to burst out with profanities but something stopped her. Two lips. Belonging to Ryuu. His eyes were closed as his fingers nimbly kept her chin up comfortably. She closed her eyes to revel in his caring touch, warm soft lips… “I don’t know if I can wait for you, Rin.”
She held back a groan, “I... I don’t want you to. I don’t know…” He straightened himself and, without another word, walked away; leaving the love of his life and perhaps best friend to sit under a cherry blossom tree. The last thing he heard escape her rosy lips were, “Ryuu” and he couldn’t take being sucked into her dimension again. It was far too depressing. So he left her; drenched from the rain and acted as if he could care less if she caught pneumonia. But in his heart he’ll always remember that he accomplished two goals: admitting how he felt and still feels, and being able to finally experience love’s flavor; vanilla covered strawberries sometimes with a splash of guilt.
A/N: Didn’t I warn you guys it’d be depressing? Yeah… So that’s it.
If you’re all wondering where this idea came from, I’m sad to say that the plot is actually something that really happened. No I’m not Japanese; I thought it’d be easier to use those names though. Uh… please review; I’m trying to bring the best out of the sad memory and uh… I’ll give you cookies?
