Hands of the Sky

I think one day we’ll stretch our fingers so wide
that the skin connecting the base between each finger
will become as wide as a bat’s
and lift us to the pale and wailing moon.
People will cry tears of joy
and praise the Sky for making
a common dream that was dreamt for so long
grace their sleepy eyes.
But I will thank the People,
even though they will never realize
that for all of those years, they were making themselves
more like the Sky to which they reach
by simply being People.
