Then, I had an idea; I had been focusing on healing my legs, but what if I broke them in every spot, and then healed them straight. I could use this new power that came from my mind to help me. I wouldn’t feel it anyway. “Wait Nathan, I have an idea.”

Nathan groaned at this but I didn’t care. I wanted to live, and after killing a guard I would never be allowed to live. The guard still lay there and someone would come soon. I knew that I would have to be quick, but first I would need to close that door, and so I did. Then I focused on my legs, focused on wanting to break them at every crooked spot. I heard snapping but felt nothing. I could be hurt in a million ways and never feel the pain.

After I finished breaking my bones I went straight to forcing them straight and then to the binding of bone again. When I was done, I was once again exhausted. I had no idea why my powers made me feel so tired. Nathan looked worried so I smiled slightly at him, and then once again I slept.

I have no idea why my powers cause me to sleep, but once again I woke up in the comfort of Nathan’s arms. Suddenly though, I had a realization, my barriers must have been breaking down! I liked being within Nathan’s arms. I couldn’t live if I felt things. Why was I feeling thoughts for Nathan and who was he? I pulled myself away from the boy who my memory told me was Nathan. I forced every memory behind my barrier, like I did whenever anyone left.

It was then that I noticed the strange boy within my cell. “Who are you?” I whispered.

The boy whispered back, “Don’t you remember me, Hope? I am Nathan.” He looked confused. Why should I remember him?

Then I realized that there was a dead guard within the room and that I and he both wore no chains. The door wasn’t closed all the way. What was going on? Then I looked down at my ankles and realized that they weren’t crooked. “What is going on”, I whispered to the boy who called himself Nathan. I then also asked, “Why is there a dead guard in here, why is the door slightly open, where are my chains, and why aren’t my ankles crooked? And who are you again?”

The boy looked really unhappy and said, “You don’t remember everything? I am Nathan. You killed the guard, you broke the chains, and you healed yourself.”

I think that that boy most have been slightly touched in the brain. Why else would he be telling me things like this? I pinched myself and felt nothing. It was good to know that I still felt nothing.

The boy then asked me, “Do you want to escape?”

“Escape?” I asked. What in the world did that mean?

“Whatever, just come with me, Hope,” The boy said, slightly annoyed with me.

“Who is Hope? I don’t know who I am but I sure don’t see another person that could be called Hope.” I replied to him.

He gave a great big sigh and said, “You are Hope, now come.” He grabbed my wrist and forced me to walk on unsteady legs that weren’t used to walking. Why did he want me to come with him? I wondered, but I went anyway.

He pulled open the door slightly and allowed light to come into the room more. He peered out into whatever was beyond. He then said, “Don’t ask any questions and just come with me. Be completely silent.”

I then said, “One more question, you aren’t taking me out of here are you?”

He looked over at me and said, “Yup, I am taking you out of here. Now Hope, no more questions. I am tired of questions and we need to go before anyone comes.”

Then the door swung open and I was dragged into an extremely bright world where everything was blurry and hard to see because it was so bright. My eyes hurt from the light. He pulled me through and closed the door. I wondered about the guard within, but I wasn’t supposed to ask questions so I kept my mouth shut. Who wouldn’t? I didn’t want to get in trouble with this Nathan dude. Also, I was depended on him to lead me within this strange washed out world of light. I am not sure how he could stand the light. Then he pulled me behind something. I heard footsteps and then nothing. Then we were going again. Slowly, I stated being able to see. I realized that rectangles were letting the light in. I also realized we were passing cells with things scrawled on them.

The boy Nathan seemed to be studying the little neat rows of lines until we came to one door where we stopped. He whispered to me, “Focus on the door and will it open.”

I did as he told me and felt something flow through my eyes to the door and it opened. Grimly he went within, pulling me along. When we were within, I saw a girl starring blankly at the ceiling lying on a cot. “She is an xatron victim,” I whispered to him, not knowing where the words came from. The girl sat up, and looked at me with haunted eyes. She then moaned, “It didn’t like me. It liked you.” She then fell back to her cot.

“Lizzie,” The boy, Nathan, whispered. The girl didn’t respond so he went over and picked her up, still dragging me along. The girl moaned out a, “Who are you?” Then she awoke a little more to the world and said, “Something is missing. I must die. Let me die. I don’t want to live. It’s gone but I don’t know what it was.” Then the girl started crying.

I felt sorry and so I said, “Living is all that matters.”

The girl snarled at me and said, “There is much more that matters but I do not know what it is!”

Nathan set her on her feet and said, “Come Lizzie, come with us. We will help you. Do not ask questions, just come.” He then grabbed her wrist, took us both out the door, closed her door, and then we were hiding behind something. I heard voiced and footsteps. Nathan turned toward me and whispered, “If they find us, focus on them and want them to be asleep.” I wondered why I should do that, but whatever, he was obviously the boss here.
