Curious about dreams from the past

Where the Italian boy swung me in his arms

And held my hand

A boy given little though to in so long

No shared kisses

But shared moments

Curious whether her crush

That even at fourteen she dismissed as unrealistic

Could have been something more

Something lasting

For friends sometimes raised eyebrows

And sometimes his beautiful smiles went beyond just perfect

And foremost the odd retrospect

That suggests something more lay in those

dismissed touches

inklings

and glances

That at the time seemed ordinary

And awkward

Or perhaps simply imagined

But we must not rely on dreams

Or arms that never held

And a girl that was oblivious

But who somehow hoped
