Sailor’s Dream

“Listen now, for there’s a song on the ocean

A mermaid’s harp, a siren’s call

Seagull’s song, like thunder unspeaking

Come now – they’re calling for you

-

Lift the sails and row out of the harbour

Leave behind both land and home

Alone at sea where cold winds are blowing

Let your boat go wherever it goes

-

Open your eyes as the dream is ending

As darkness of night shall vanish

Those silent waves – cold, without colour

The sailor’s dream is a paradise

-

Now close your eyes and let the song lead you

White and black whale beneath your boat

See the stars dying as dark shall descend

Just a lonely candle – or a lighthouse afar

-

No light on your way, no harbour to go

No more than wind over this cold sea

But follow these whales, black and white

And they’ll lead you where the sirens sing

-

Shall day ever end and night come forth

Will the paradise of wishes then shatter

The ocean is cold, and the sirens won’t sing

The mermaid harp lies in the bottom of the sea

-

But the dream is calling, so lift your sails

Can’t wait when the kraken swims again

Let the ocean carry you, may rain fall down

For the lighthouse will guide your way.”
