Or will Ryan just get her into bed again, and again, and again with no real closure on their relationship?

CHAPTER 1

Ryan's eyes lit up when he opened his front door. "Happy Birthday Ry!" wished Riley, his best friend. "Thanks! Everyone is already here." He said with a lump in his throat. "Come on in." Ryan opened the door wider to let Riley in. He closed the door and led her to the basement. She put her purse in the workout room with all the others. She saw Jasmine's purse, Michael’s (Ryan's best friend) jacket, and a furry purse she had never seen before.

She walked out of the room, only to bump into Jasmine. "Hey!" Riley squealed, giving her a bear hug.

"Have you seen her?" Jasmine calmly informed with sadness in their throat.

"Who?" Riley asked, still a little joyful but confused.

"He hasn't told you yet?"

"Who hasn't?"

"Riley!" Ryan interrupted. He took her hand. His hand was very sweaty and he looked nervous. "I want you to meet someone." He led Riley through the crowd to the table full of snacks. A thin, pale looking girl with black hair was standing talking to some other girl with red hair and freckles. The anorexic looking girl with no shape saw Ryan out of the corner of her eye and whispered something in the other girl's ear. Red-head looked at Ryan approaching and smiled. When they reached the table, the anorexic girl threw her arms around Ryan and gave him a really intiment hug. Ryan held onto Riley's hand a lot tighter now. Ryan sort of pushed the girl away.

"This is Riley." He said to her. He turned towards Riley, "And this is Andrea."

"Omigosh I heard SO much about you!" Andrea squealed. Andrea gave Riley a hug. She smelled like vanilla and cat pee.

Andrea backed up. "That's funny; I've never heard anything about you." Riley said in a whats-going-on-who-is-she-but-I'll-still-act-nice way. "How do you two know each other?"

And at the same time, Ryan said "Church", but Andrea said "I'm his girlfriend."

Riley stood there in aw, confusion and anger. Ryan still held on to her hand. A single strand of hair fell in Riley's face, and Ryan noticed that her brown and slightly curly hair looked so much prettier than Andrea's straight and shiny black hair.

"Oh." Was all that Riley could spit out. "I, um," she swallowed hard, "I have, t-to go. I, um, have something I need to do." Riley freed herself from Ryan's tight grasp and walked away from the three. She left the red-head in confusion, Andrea in confusion, and Ryan in guilt.

Riley pushed her way through the crowd to the workout room, completely ignoring Jasmine calling after her. Jasmine followed Riley into the room and shut the door. Riley picked up her purse and faced Jasmine. Riley had a look on her face Jasmine, her best friend, had never seen before.

"Oh, Riley." Jasmine cooed and hugged Riley. "I see you met the bitch." Jasmine gently stroked her back.

Riley fought the tears. "I have to go." Riley said, and pulled away from Jasmine and made her way towards the door.

Riley tore open the door and ran up the stairs and Jasmine just stood there watching her friend run away. Then she saw Ryan run up after her, and Andrea flirting with another boy at the party. What did that slut have that Riley doesn't? She thought.

Riley tore down the driveway, hearing the front door slam. "Riley!" A voice called after her. She felt a single tear run down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away. She turned onto the sidewalk. "Ri!" It called again, but this time it was closer. She kept on walking. Then the voice was right in front of her. It was Ryan. She fought so hard to keep the tears back but she couldn't help it.

"Riley, what’s wrong? Why did you leave?" He asked with a look of concern in his eyes. She couldn't bear to look him in the eye. Instead she looked at the grass.

"I told you I had to go." She blankly stated her voice cracking.

"Look, about Andrea, she's just...” he started but Riley interrupted him.

"I know your girl friend from church. I get it."

"It's not like that."

"Ryan, try not to apologize. You did, n-nothing wrong." The tears really were running down her cheeks now.

He grabbed her chin and pulled her face up so he could look her in the eyes. "But I did, otherwise you wouldn't be crying."

"I thought you loved me." She quietly whispered. She threw his present that she was carrying the whole time on the grass. Ryan didn't follow it.

"I do...” he was about to say before she immediately said, "And I thought I did, too." She ran around Ryan and down the street to her house, slamming her front door. Ryan stood there in guilt and stared at the present lying in the grass. He picked it up and opened it. It was a picture of Riley and him, and Riley was kissing his cheek. He smiled at the sight of it and immediately regretted what he had just done, and went back inside his house.

Riley woke up to the soft summer sun. School had just ended a week ago and Ryan's birthday was only yesterday but it felt like forever ago. She kept replaying the night in her mind over and over, trying to make something out of it. She rolled out of bed and looked in the mirror. Her hair was a mess and her nose was red from crying all night. She brushed her hair to look at least decent and put on some mascara. Then she put on some slippers and walked down the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen. She was home alone because her mom was at work and she doesn't have a dad. He died in a plane crash. She reached in the fridge and grabbed the orange juice carton. She put it on the counter next to her cell phone. It was blinking. She picked it up. She had five missed calls, all from Ryan. And ten text messages, all from Ryan. She didn't want to look at them. She put her phone down and went to the cupboard for a cup. At the same time her house phone rang. She didn't even bother to pick it up at first, then hesitated, and picked it up. "Hello?"

"Riley!" A voice cried on the other line.

"Ryan?" he was on his cell phone.

"I finally got a hold of you!"

"Ryan I don't want to talk to you."

"But I have to explain. I have been doing a lot of thinking last night during and after the party and I have come to this. I am really sorry I didn't tell you about Andrea. We met at this church thing while you were in Mexico, and one thing led to another and we ended up..."

"Ryan!" She interrupted, "I don’t want to hear it. I'm your best friend, apparently. I can’t choose who you date. So I accept the fact that you are her boy friend," lie, "so just leave it at that.” She put her finger on the 'end' button.

"Wait!" She put the phone back on her ear, and leaned against the counter.

"What?"

"There's more. But I have to tell you this in person."

"I don’t want to see you right now. You'll just have to tell me over the phone."

"No I have to tell you this now. In person. Open your front door."

"What?" She looked at the door.

"Just do it." She walked over to the front door and opened it. Ryan was standing right there. He put his phone in his pocket and she put her home phone on the table next to the door. His hair was pushed back from the wind and he was wearing a T-shirt and jeans. He looked so hot, but then she remembered she was mad at him and pushed that thought out of her mind. "Ryan I..." She started but was interrupted. Ryan lunged forward. He grabbed her waist, pulled her on in close and kissed her. He pushed the door with his foot. Ryan knew he had a girl friend but he wanted to do this first. And once he started he couldn't stop.

Riley opened her eyes. It was 4:12pm. She rolled over in her bed and rested her head on Ryan's chest. He was silently sleeping. She kissed him and lay back down. He opened his eyes and smiled. "Hi." He whispered.

"Hi." She whispered back. He kissed her and pulled her on top of him. He gently stroked her back and she closed her eyes. "That was amazing." She complimented.

"Yes, it was." He replied.

"How did you know what to do?"

"I don’t know. I just did what felt right." LIE. He didn't have the heart to tell her that this wasn't his first time. She looked up at him, and he looked her straight in the eye.

"I love you, still." Riley said with a slight giggle. She laid her head back on his chest and closed her eyes.

While she was drifting off to sleep he whispered. "I love you, too."

Riley heard a car door slam. "Oh snap!" She lunged out of bed and looked out the window. Her mom was home, early!

Ryan opened his eyes when he noticed she wasn't there anymore. "You have a great body." He lazily complimented.

"My moms home!"

"Oh shoot!" He quickly got out of bed and threw his clothes. So did Riley. They stopped to listen to the front door slam.

"Riley! I'm home!" Her mom called. Ryan and Riley looked at each other.

"Window!" Riley opened the window.

"What?!" Ryan questioned.

"Just climb out the window and climb down the tree."

Ryan cautiously climbed out the window and grabbed on a tree branch. It wasn't very graceful but he got down the tree and landed on the grass with a thud. He ran across the yard and down the street to his house.

Riley closed the window and put some perfume on so she didn't smell like sex. She ran down the stairs. "Hi mom!" She pretended like she just woke up.

"Hey sweetie. Did you just wake up?" her mom asked.

"Yes." Lie.

"Ok. What do you want for dinner?"

"I'm not that hungry." Now that was true. She walked back upstairs while her mom was unloading groceries.

When she got back to her room she noticed that Ryan left his boxers on the floor. She kicked them under her bed. She pulled the sheets off of her bed and threw them in her hamper. She will do the laundry herself so this little rondeveuze she had with Ryan will stay secret. Little did she know, someone already knew.
