From The Five Gods, New Version: When Korith finally tells Kira he’s possessed by Taka

“Kira,” Korith said shakily, his head hung low. The boy took a deep breath before continuing, “I… want to tell you something. Something important…”
Kira’s face turned a faint red as she replied, “What is it?”
“Well, I’ve… been thinking a lot lately,” he paused, looking into Kira’s eyes, “about… you.”
The girl’s heart skipped a beat on that last word. Korith was thinking about her? Could this possibly be happening, or was it just a dream? She didn’t know how to respond, she could only ask, “What?”
“I trust you more than anyone else I know. And I feel like… I can actually talk to you. When I’m around you, I feel… happy... like I don’t have to hide anything.”
Again, Korith paused for what seemed like a century. Kira could only hope he was saying what she’d always wanted to hear. That he felt for her what she’d always felt for him.
“Kira… I… I want to tell you a secret. You can’t tell anyone else. Can you promise me that you won’t?” he asked, his eyes were stern, with a hint of worry.
“Of course,” Kira replied, “tell me anything.”
Korith let out a sigh and stepped closer to her, taking her hands in his own. “I… have to go away… for a while.” Kira’s eyes widened with shock and disbelief. Korith noticed her unsteadiness, but continued nonetheless, “It’s… for the best. I have to get away from here. I don’t want to cause any trouble for my friends… my family… and especially not you, Kira. If I stay, I might… hurt someone… and I can’t let that happen…”
“Hurt someone?” Kira choked. Her eyes were burning as she fought the oncoming tears. It can’t end like this, she refused to let it; she had to tell him. “Korith, you can’t go! You can’t leave me! I don’t know what I’d do without you; I need you! Please!” The tears began streaming down her blushed cheeks, “Korith, please…” She forced the words out, “I love you, Korith!”
Korith was almost taken aback by that line. He’d tried so hard to avoid hearing that from Kira, she was his friend and he didn’t want to lose that. But now, hearing it out loud, everything had changed. The silent boy, who’d lived his life observing others, was finally given the chance to love someone. He didn’t have to fear the risk of losing a friendship for the chance of gaining a lover. The only thing he ever truly wanted was standing before him, crying for him, begging him to stay with her. The boy couldn’t help but stutter. “K- Kira…” he gulped, trying to think of a response. He loved her, but that only made his will to leave even stronger. He couldn’t put her in danger. “Kira… you don’t understand. I’m leaving because of how I… feel about you.” Korith dropped the girl’s hands and wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight. “If only you could understand… If it weren’t for Taka I could stay with you forever, Kira…”
Kira froze. No, she thought, Not him! It can’t be him! Please, god NO!Kira shoved Korith back as hard as she could as she felt herself losing control. “Ookami, you can’t! Please!”
But it was too late. The wolf god had already begun his transformation. The dire beast appeared in only seconds, snarling wildly at his foe; the hawk; Taka.
