An Honest Answer

Written By: Cassandra Ernst

Created on 7 December 2007

Jules was tired—tired of waiting—she had just gotten back from another unsuccessful date with her boyfriend, Steven. Still no action, and by action, she meant he didn't even believe in kissing before marriage.

Kissing!

Frankly, no matter how much she loved him, the lack of physical affection was more than aggravating. It wasn't like she wanted sex—she believed that should wait until marriage—but a little smooch here and there never hurt anyone.

"Please God; help him understand that kissing doesn't have to be bad." Jules didn't expect an answer, but nevertheless, she opened the Bible for her nightly devotion. It fell to the book of Proverbs.

Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul . . .

Do not gloat when your enemy falls . . .

To show partiality in judgment is not good . . .

She had heard them all before. Suddenly, Jules eyes jumped to 24:26. An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips. A giggle rose up in Jules' throat; her roommate gave her a strange look, but she didn't care. It wasn't long before she formed a foolproof plan.

The next day Jules met with Steven for an afternoon movie. She snuggled against his shoulder and enjoyed the show. After all, she had waited almost six months for a kiss; a few more hours wouldn't hurt. When the credits rolled by, however, Jules made her move.

"I found the most interesting passage in Proverbs yesterday."

"Oh?" Despite her attempt to sound casual, Jules could tell Steven was already onto her. He sat up on the couch. "What did it say?"

"An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips." She smiled in triumph, but he only raised his brows.

"Really?"

"Yeah . . ." Jules' voice went considerably husky. "So would you like an honest answer?" Her eyes fluttered shut as she leaned closer. Just a few more moments; she could feel his breath, like cinnamon, mingling with her own. Finally sweet blessed relief . . .

Jules' lips were met with a hand.

Her eyes flew open to meet Steven's highly amused ones. "Good try." He smirked. She pouted.

Love certainly is patient, but Jules didn't find it very kind.
