First Snow of Winter

Beautiful flakes, fall silently down,
the crisp winter air, their way to the ground.
They quietly rest, one upon the other,
piling up, like a wintery cover.

The kids, stuck in classrooms,
can’t wait to be freed.
Their minds dream of snowballs,
sledding, and skiing.

But the swift, somber snowflakes
dream of something less fickle,
a life where their beauty,
can be enjoyed forever.
