Observations- Media
The world today is so drawn in by corporate corruption and celebrity mishaps that often times it seems that we as a society have forgotten what its like to handle our own problems. Rather than go home after a hard day and relaxing, we pride ourselves on looking at what Britney Spears or Madonna did that was ten times more embarrassing. We are able, at a click of a button, to ignore our own problems because, hey, a nut job with a bomb strapped to his chest blew up a school bus in the Middle East. Rather than minding our own we choose to look at things twice as ugly and say, “Damn... at least I’m not off that bad.” With this style of thinking, many times our own problems get worse, but we lay numb to it.
CNN, the Novocain of our nation.
Our way to ignore our own pain and replace it with the fake sorrow we feel for others. To give ourselves something else to pray about that night because maybe, just maybe, we don’t need it as much as they do.
Talk about charity, the media pumps drugs through your TV, your computer and your radio every day and you don’t even notice it.
In the end though, maybe we should forget about our own problems, let them grow worse and worse and feed ourselves to the solution.
So next time the paper reads that you shot up the mall or that you took out the president. Next time your friends open the paper, it’s screaming about how you slaughtered a family, just so we can all forget about our own issues for a second.
