we were unbearable

lovers

liars

she handed me the world

a faerie queen.

(she said

you may have three wishes)

a wish, the first

you may take your gold

we have no use here of petty

pretty gifts

(she said

and so you shall receive)

a wish, a lover

the first.

(she said

with eyes of silver and gnashing teeth,

and so you, the tyrants of love,

so mote it be)

his touch

the branding burn of his smile

skin and tongue and teeth.

beneath his skin

beat a heart

to quicken with mine

to beat as one with mine

(she said

lust is meaningless,

but so you shall receive)

a wish, a lover

the second.
