Loveland
By Raven aka Shadowcat
Prologue:
The little stone bridge floated above the stream like the dreamlike clouds up in the night sky. We were finally alone, just he and I. The moon that floated above wasn’t the real one but it certainly still was beautiful, filling up half the sky and bathing the landscape around us in pale light.
“Do you believe in true love?” I asked, playing with the top button of my secretary costume.
“Honestly?” his gaze flicked slightly towards mine as he asked sheepishly, the edges of his wings glowing faintly. He sighed slowly, his breath curling out like smoke in the chill night air, “Not really.”
“Oh?” I replied offhandedly, just to keep the conversation going. I really wanted to hear his voice. “Why not?”
He smiled, the moonlight illuminating the sadness on the edge of his lips, “Life is really just a series of disconnected memories. How could I presume to know what the next one will be like?”
For just a moment, he looked almost otherworldly, the moon framed within his melancholy eyes. Like a God or a fallen angel or something. Something perfect.
He stood there thinking for a while, staring at the moon and stars reflected in the river below. Then he smiled again, honestly this time, “The moon is very pretty tonight.”
“Yes,” I agreed, staring at the moon in his eyes. “It is very pretty.”
Forward:
Loveland is a story about a world much like our own. They live in the same houses, have the same hobbies, and even share many of the same prejudices.
But more than anything, Loveland is the story of a young boy who is trying desperately to understand a world of nonsense. Along the way, he meets a boy who only leaves him with more questions.
Disclaimer: Loveland is a dark fairy tale. A romance of lies, mistakes, uncertainty, and rape. A wide spectrum of relationships are represented, from MM to FM to FF, as well as some uncommon relationship ideology. But overall, it is simply a story about finding yourself through true love.
I have put a lot of time and thought into this work (which grew out of my NaNoWriMo) and I hope you all enjoy it. The first draft was just a little over 50K words but we'll have to see how much ends up here. I'm currently trying to post a chapter a day, so please stop back in frequently! I would love it if you would contact me to tell me what you think! Oh and if there gets to be too much of a gap between posts, feel free to prod me XD.
