Author’s Note: This one is a bit dark, just a random one I did several years ago that got lost until now.

Gone Astray

Beneath a cap of midnight blue,

I stand to bid this world adieu.

Though I strain to find the reasons why,

I know, for a fact, it emerged from a lie.

A broken promise of wedded bliss,

Was rewarded that of the crimson kiss.

My lips touched down upon your contorted frown,

As your hand clutched to my virginal gown.

The last breath was wrenched from your ailing soul,

At the moment my heart turned black as coal.

The blade was death’s instrument,

My hand its guide.

I cannot recall now if I even cried.

As I whispered the words into your ear,

I knew they’d be the last you’d hear.

You lied, you lied, how you lied to me,

And now our love will cease to be.

The pristine image I once held of you,

Is tainted now by words untrue.

Your caress befell another’s flesh,

Writhing in passion, your souls did mesh.

You had promised to reserve it all for me,

But it was all just words I can plainly see.

You broke something I held precious in my mind’s eye,

Tell me, did you even try?

My trust has now been shattered,

A mirror falling from the wall.

But not just for one,

You have ruined it for all.

Standing at the cliff’s jagged edge,

My eyes fall upon the ring.

Glittering brightly in the pale light of night,

It’s the symbol of happiness our love promised to bring.

But happiness fails to reach,

I fall upon my knees.

Sinking to the ground, I whimper, scream, and cry,

Casting aside a last goodbye.

The blood on my hands will never wash away,

Now that my soul has gone astray.

I have reached the last of my days,

Putting an end to my wicked ways.

I stand tall once again,

Chalking it up to a life of sin.

I raise up my hand and look up at the moon,

Thinking of you, we may meet again soon.

I wonder if you’re waiting,

For me, down in Hell.

The darkness will consume me soon,

I know, I can tell.

I suppose there’s nothing left to say,

Come what may, time to pay.

I take off the ring,

Your token of love.

Then toss it up to the stars above.

It rises with hope,

But is pulled down by woe,

Falling to the rocks and ocean below.

I stand on the edge now,

My emotions a tide.

I close my eyes tightly,

My senses alive.

I do not look back,

My soul needs no tempting.

I let death close in,

My future is empty.

I spread my arms wide,

Like a bird in flight.

The only solution has entered my sight.

With not a prayer or reprieve for little old me,

I plunge myself down to the vast, stormy sea.
