SEQUEL TO FINDING SABRINA

EXCERPT

CHAPTER ONE – 11 WEEKS METHINKS

Blair chewed her lip as I sat with two ice packs on my knees. “She’s not gonna get away with this” She said examining her false nails.

“Yeah…” I said vaguely.

“You’re not even bothered are you?” Blair snapped. I rolled my eyes. I have no idea what got into me, I don’t know why I started taunting Bri but she was just there and I was angry…

“Course I am I’ve got chewed up knees…” I said glancing down at them…Eww

“It’s not about you’re knees you idiot! She made you look like a loser in front of everyone!” Blair snapped again. I rolled my eyes again and sunk into my chair.

“Madeline…how are you feeling now?” Asked the receptionist.

“Fine. I’m fine” I said looking down at my knees again.

“Well we can plaster up your knees then you can go back to class.” The receptionist added.

“What use is that? It’s nearly half way through the second lesson!” Blair screeched laughing. I groaned. Blair’s voice was piercing.

“Excuse me?”

“Blair shut up. I’ll go back to class, it’s fine.”

“But it’s Chem! Everyone’s in Chem!” Blair said.

“Yeah…we also have a test in Chem next week so I need to be in the class!” I said.

“Your funeral. I’m off ok. Gotta get out these shorts.” Blair said getting up and wiggling away out the front door. I sighed again. Why was I even friends with her?

Ten minutes later I was standing outside Chemistry breathing deeply. Ok, get a grip; you have to go into class. Deep breaths Maddie. I opened the door and every head in the class swivelled back and looked at me. I gulped. Harriett whispered something to Saskia and they both laughed.

“Miss Abbot. Nice of you to finally join us.” Mr Haybridge said sarcastically. I sighed and shuffled towards my seat which just happened to be next to Reece. He glared at as I sat down and did his best to act like I wasn’t there. Perfect (!) “Well before we were interrupted we were talking about Atomic structures. Now Atoms consist of electrons surrounding a nucleus that contains protons and neurons. Neutrons are neutral, but protons and electrons are electrically charged. Protons have a relative charge of +1, while electrons have a relative charge of -1.” Mr Haybridge droned. I was already sleepy and I’d just walked into class! I got my notebook out my bag and started doodling on a fresh page. A star, a flower, a cloud, a rain cloud, another star, another flower…I was bored. Someone next to me coughed. I glanced up.

“Miss Abbot. I asked you a question.” Mr Haybridge said.

“Oh…” I stammered looking round. Once again Harriett sniggered; Saskia next to her was wiping away the tear of laughter with her heavily manicured fingers.

“If An element has the electronic structure 2,8,4. Which group is it in Miss Abbot?”

“Umm….Group Four?” I said.

Mr Haybridge looked shocked and laughed quietly. “Surprisingly…you’re right...”

I sighed happily and returned to my doodling. A knock on the door distracted everyone. And cue birds chirping, violin crescendos and dazzling lights….joy…

“Ahh…Miss Ambers…What can I do for you today?” Mr Haybridge said smiling paedo-ish. Sabrina walked into the class and waved at Harriett and Saskia who waved back. Reece sat up next to me and smiled widely towards Sabrina. She smiled sideways at him then returned her attention towards Haybridge

“Miss Collins wanted to know if you have an extra copy of Biology GCSE Grade Three.” She asked sweetly.

“Yes thank you Miss Ambers I do.” Haybridge laughed jokingly…and cue entire class laughing at his lame-ass joke. You can tell most of the people in this class were smart by the way they laughed heartily at some perv’s stupid half joke. Sabrina smiled and giggled even sweeter than humanly possible. “Would you care to borrow one?” Haybridge added. Sabrina nodded, her stupid stunning silk-like hair bounced up and down with every nod.

“Thank you Mr Haybridge.” Sabrina said walking happily out the room. I groaned and returned to my doodling. This was all so stupid I thought. If life rules everything would be ok between me and Bri and I’d be 10 pounds lighter… I sighed and glanced out the classroom window. It had started to rain again and it looked like we ere due for a storm. We hadn’t had a proper storm for months and most people were speculating how bad this one would be.

“I hope it’s not too bad. Louise said she’s have a party this weekend…” Nikki, some girl form my form a never really spoke to, said opposite the table.

“Party?” I asked.

“Yeah…With invitations.” Nikki sneered implying that I wouldn’t get one. “Oh Reece. Are you and Sabrina free? Louise would love you two to be here.” Nikki added smiling at Reece.

Reece looked up from his textbook and nodded “Umm…Sure…I’ll ask Bri.”

“Awesomeness.” Nikki said grinning. I looked at with my mouth open. Awesomeness was mine and Bri’s word. We used to use it all the time when we were friends and no-one else bothered, no-one else really understood the whole awesomeness thing…“What?” Nikki snapped noticing me staring at her.

“Oh it’s nothing…well...I just never realised what small close set eyes you have…” I said. Nikki gasped and suddenly leapt to her bag and grabbed a compact mirror. I sniggered and returned to my doodling.
