The sunlight through the leaves
makes soft green and lavender
light glow in the world that we found,
tucked within the drape
of the branches. We stand beneath
the eucalyptus tree and she takes
a cherry between her white
fingers, pulling the fruit
from the stem with her teeth.
I hold her hand and we dance
and she laughs with her perfect
stained-red mouth. I touch her
shoulder with my fingers, leaving slight,
pink stains across her skin,
and she's choking with her hands
across her face. She coughs
up a red that is darker than the cherries.
